alright, my car is pretty effed, i bought it as a project and have spent a lot of time working things out. when i got it running it was surging and i traced it to a bov not recirculating the air. alright so i put stock stuff back on this morning and i thought it was fixed... wrong! :notgood: okay so i took some videos of whats happening.

The first video is what happens when i first start the car. Idle is a little high but it is stable

The second video is after waiting about 3 minutes for the temp to rise and the surge to begin.
<object width="425" height="350"> <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/vA3myQhhVpY"> </param> <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/vA3myQhhVpY" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350"> </embed> </object>

the last video is when i unplugged the MAF and the idle dropped, it ran rich but the idle was about the right RPM.

so there it is. I'm pretty new at all this and i'm trying things. also i can't seem to get the engine fan to work. I tried jumping it at the fuse box and it worked. i can get the AC fan to work with ac on high but the engine still gets just as hot just as fast.

thanks!

No CEL? I'd look into the TPS and the ISC. If you just got the car, I'd plug a scan tool into the port to scan for any thrown codes; if your car is acting the way it is, it should at least throw a code. Maybe your bulb for the CEL is blown.

Idle surge on a cold start during warm up could be the TPS dying.

well it did that but then i replaced the aftermarked bov with a stock 1 that recirculated the air and it fixed it on cold. it only starts when temp is about 48% (2nd video).

no the cel comes on when i start the car like all the other dash lights (video 1). i plugged in a reader and it didn't give me a code. it did have flashing sensors indecating that it didn't get a response from some sensors... i think.

I had the same problem and it turned out that the ISC was bad. Unplug the battery and when you plug the battery back in, you should hear the ECU cycle the ISC to calibrate it. If you don't hear it do this, well then you know it's bad. I had it happen a second time, but it turned out that the ISC harness connector had worked its way out. Two possible causes for you to check.

Can you tell me where the ISC is so I know where 2 listen? Thanks

Behind the intake manifold, off the back left side. Right below the throttle body. Can't miss it. Take the battery out and you can see it better. It should be a square looking plug.

is the idle just bad or does it run bad while driving it? casue if just idle then check the ISC but if it runs horrible while driving it and while at wide open throttle then could be offer things.

well i havn't actually driven the car. i bought it without a tranny and it's been in the air since i installed it because i've been working out all the other problems. i'm hoping it's just a problem when at idle.

Your ISC should be black bolted down by two 8mm bolts. You need to unplug your battery, remove the plastic tray, look at the throttle body, the ISC is the bottom left of the throttle body and the screws are diagonal from each other. The topone is going to be on the left and the bottom one is going to be on the right.

It's not hard at all to change it or to remove it but just heads up, there's an o-ring that seals the ISC onto the TB so watch out for the o-ring or it'll fall into the pit of despair transverse engine bay.

You'll have to give the ECU some time to re-compensate for the work it had been doing to keep the motor running when the BOV was vented. Drive it a week or so.

Well I have to get it inspected by the state before I can license it and it won't pass with the way it's running. I'm gonna check the ISC this weekend, hopefully it's something simple

well i'm not sure if it's good news or bad news but i checked the ISC and guess what... 2 burnt coils! alright so now i've figured out the problem, anyone got a good place for a replacement?
