Well my baby crapped out on me severely today. I left for work at 5:20 a.m. and on my way to the gas station for my morning coffee I start to hear knocking and pinging over my radio. I looked at my logger and my knock count was going through the roof. I turned around, limped back to the house, and shut it down. Once it got daylight I started looking things over. After ruling out all the obvious stuff I decided to drain the oil and drop the pan. I didn't even have to drop the oil pan i looked in the drain pan and it had metal shavings in it. This couldn't have come at a worst time. I'm in the process of buying a house, this was my only mode of transportation, and I still owe money on the loan. I just changed the oil last weekend too. DAMN IT !!! Sorry, I'm sure most of you really don't give a s*** but I had to vent. :(

Sorry to hear that bro. Any idea what happened? Low oil pressure, etc?

I'm not sure what happened. The only thing I've done lately was change the oil. I had a Valvoline quick lube change the oil previously and I had them put in Valvoline brand oil. This time I changed the oil and I put in Mobile 1. I drove the car for 3 days and never had a problem. My oil pressure never dropped until it started knocking. First thing I did was check the oil level and it was still full. I don't know, maybe it was time for it to blow. It has 170,000 miles on it. I've been too pissed off to start tearing it apart and find out what happened. I think it spun a bearing but I don't know yet.

Similar, man. Just picked mine up from having minor crap thrown on (new thermo, alternator), took it for a spin. Ran perfect, up until the plume of steam from under the hood. Heater hose burst pretty spectacularly, dropped all the coolant. Pulled over immediately and stopped, but it still looks like the head is warped or cracked, if not worse... refilling it and trying to start it, I get a four-foot geyser from the radiator fill, with the cap off.

maynard: I know EXACTLY what you mean.

I often have the same "too pissed to care..." problem

Man that sucks. The more you fix, the more that goes wrong.

Got to love our love-hate relationship with these cars.

I know what you mean man, I had about $100 to my name when I spun a rod bearing because of my oil cooler blowing up like last month. Mine had 107k, and is now going through a 6 bolt build thanks to a loan.

Don't worry, you'll get back on your feet. Maybe you can pick up a beater and work on yours in your spare time.

There are some pros to my situation though. I was able to drop my insurance down so I'm going to save about $280 every 6 months and I have something that will keep me busy on the weekends. I have a friend who's going to sell me his 88 CRX for dirt cheap. So I'll have a car that'll haul my butt back and forth to work. :thumb: It's not a bad looking car either, I like it. OMG That's right, I said it. I like the Honda.

Lucky man... I was planning on buying a hatch or a CRX and swapping next summer, then the motor went, so now I have to wait to buy the beater next summer. :notgood:

Things never work out the way you want them to. When it rains it pours. It's a shame your motor went. I was checking out your profile pics. Very nice car. :thumb: I love that color.

Thanks, it has to be my favorite DSM color, it's a little oxidized though.

It's been a long time since I've been on this forum but I decided to give an update on my car. Turns out the main bearings are what was laying in the bottom of the oil pan. The crank received some lovely damage too. I'm in the process of slowly rebuilding it. Time and money are playing a huge role in all of this but hopefully I'll have her back on the rode in a couple months.

Keep at it. When you finally get her to fire up, it'll be music to your ears, trust me :dsm:

I'm looking forward to that day. I've put way too much time and money into her as it is. I'm not letting the bi*** get the best of me. :D By the time I'm done with her she'll be ready to go for 200,000 miles. No short cuts, no BS, all power. O.K., that was stupid

Well it's been almost 2 years since my Talon Crapped out on me but I finally got enough funds together to get the engine fixed. I had a machine shop rebuild my engine from top to bottom and I was stoked to get it back on the road. However, last night I went from feeling like a giddy little school girl to throwing up in my back yard in about 5 minutes. Here's some pics.

I did everything I was supposed to do before I fired her up. I hooked everything back up, took my time doing it, triple checked everything, pulled the mpi fuse and cranked it over until I built up some oil pressure, put the fuse back in, and started it up. She started right up and purred like a kitten. I walked around looking in the engine bay checking for any oil or coolant leaks. Everything was going great. Then all of a sudden it started to run real rough and was missing like crazy. Then I noticed a burning plastic smell. I quickly shut the car off , and started checking around the eninge bay again. That's when I noticed a perfect plastic circle laying on the floor of my garage right below the crankshaft pully. Then I noticed the sprocket sticking through the timing cover. That's when I proceded to throw up. :barf: I have no idea what happened but the shop that rebuilt my engine has one irate customer on their hands now! Too bad I can't talk to anybody until tomorrow.

That is painful. I hope you get it running after you hold that shop accountable for doing something less than their best at what you're paying for.

Keep us updated this is pretty interesting, they should be liable for everything to.

I will definitly keep updating. I'll find out more tomorrow when I can get ahold of someone at the shop.

Damn straight I'm holding them accountable!
