I have a 1998 eclipse Rs. I recently baught a 3a racing muffler that I want to install. When I looked underneath at my stock exhaust there seemed to be no clamps behind my muffler. If I can install the muffler myself I will, but only if I can use clamps. Should I be able to simply remove the muffler off of my car and clamp on a new one? should there be clamps on my exhaust that aren't there? My exaust is a single pipe, and I haven't seen anyone talk about installing a muffler on a rs model. I have seen installation videos of gst's but the stock muffler on that model is different. Do I need do get a shop do cut my old muffler and weld on my new one? or is there an easier way?

If you had gotten a muffler at a junkyard, you could have unbolted the flange that goes above the rear end.

I'm assuming you bought a new muffler, so you will need to have it welded on.

I have never had good luck with clamping a exhaust. Welds have always been good. Except the last time I took it to a cheap mexican shop near my town. Didn't even weld the pipe LOL, he layed a bead around the whole thing and it just fell apart the next day.

Don't get mad at the mexican part, as I am half mexican so it's not racist ;).

so the dude told me is would be a minimum of 150$??????? he says he would have to bend a new pipe to fit my car because if he just welds on my muffler it won't sit right. is this overpriced? does anyone know where i can get this done for cheap?

Ya that shop is playing you. If you just want a muffler welded on I wouldn't pay more than $30

Well, if you read my second post, it would be more than a weld. He would have to bend me a new pipe tha extends from the last bolt on location available so that the muffle would sit right, if he just welds on a new muffler he said it will not be in the right spot.

is this still to much? does anyone know a place in atlanta or forsyth county where i can get this done cheap?

True and correct. Had it done at monroe muffler, on my old 97 gs I had a apexi n1 Dc style and it'll take two techs. to bend the pipe cut and weld. I just paid the tech 30-60 cash.

Make sure you watch the techs. when they install it. Give them hell if one them pound a few dents into it your muffler. This happend to me and I never went back after that.

You just need to find the right muffler. You can't just buy any old muffler and expect to get away with clamping it in place of your factory muffler or you can guarantee that it's either not going to seal right or just drag on the ground.

I posted this in another thread, but a few nights ago I built what will hopefully be the last muffler setup for my '97 GS after the two previous setups rusted and fell apart inside the canister.

The system is now a full OEM midpipe and OEM over the axle- I then used a Dynomax UltraFlow 17219 full-stainless muffler ($62 shipped on eBay):

...and attached the tip from my old 5Zigen axle-back which rusted out. Here's the end result (shitty cell phone pics):

I welded it, of course...and hangers needed to be welded in place as well.

I baught this muffler intending to weld it on. It's just a straight pipe, it doesn't look like your dynomax. I'm just looking for a place that will bend me a new pipe and weld the whole gig together for cheap.

Hilarious, damn lazy assed mexicans, half assing everything, typical.
Good luck finding someone to bend a pipe considering a manderel bender is hard to find, look long enough and pay enough money and yes someone can bend a pipe but really you are wasting your time.
