I am running a 4 coil set up. I have on order a MSD DIS II H.O. which is for my set up. Is any one else running this set up? And will I need the tach adapter? I also am running the S-AFC II. Will I be able to tune with MSD? Any help would be useful!!! :thumb: :dsm:

You would want the DIS4 to be honest. The DIS2 only has two coil drivers and you would have to still run in waste spark with the MSD driving two coils at once. If you get the DIS4 then you can drive each coil independantly.

If you have a 2G then yes you will need the tach adapter if you have a 1G you can do the tach wire mod and it will work ok. The MSD has no ability to tune anything, it's simply an ignition amplifier. An amplifier just like the one on your home stereo simply increases the volume, it's not an equilizer if that makes sense. You will still need to set your car up with the SAFC.

With the DIS you will get the ability to retard timing if you wish to do so. This feature is nice when your running lots of boost on race gas you can watch your timing on your logger and have the dis drop 4 deg of tming after 5000rpm to keep you around to 20 mark instead of 25deg of advance. You don't get timing control like a stand alone but you can trick the timing down lower so you can run more boost which is a cool feature once you master it.

You will also now have access to a good two step with a quick recovery time. I two step my car at 5500 at the track and I pull outta the bucket pretty hard. I found making about 3-4psi outta the bucket i was getting the best 60ft times, more then that I spin the tires all the way though 1st. You'll have some fun with it thats for sure, it gives some neat features that are good to play with at the track.

Well there are 2 different DIS II's. One for the 2 coil set up and the other for a 4cyl 4 coil set up. Look it up!!! Thanks for answering my question. It helped alot. :thumb: :dsm:

I have the dis 4 and I am wondering how you where able to set it up with independant coils . DId you find a way to get rid of the waste spark or are you running two coils in parallel ?

The DIS-2 is only capable of controlling 2 coils independantly, and the DIS-4 can control 4. There are High Output (HO) versions available for both IIRC. I'm running a DIS-4 and 4 Blaster SS Coils. I see no reason to worry about waste spark on a 2 coil setup, it just doesn't matter. I went with 4 coils because a local shop owed me a chunk of money and I needed to resolve the debt.

Only way to go independent is with a stand alone. Bottom line is stock ECU only has two coil driver out puts.

CMiuc12s, I have a tach. adaptor if your interested.

JamiesTSI I would pm me. Well to let everyone know what I got. I got the Extrememotorsports 4 coil ignition system. It replaces the coils and ignitor. It hacks into the power transister wiring. I have installed it and it works fine. Now I found a vender selling the MSD DIS 2 H.O. There they said that it will work with a 4 cyl, 4 coil set up. :thumb: :dsm:

Yeah, it'll work with it, but it's still the same as running 2 coils essentially because you are firing them exactly like stock, 2 at a time.

This is true however the DIS4 can charge the coils independantly (though at the same time) and even though it's waste spark, your not sharing one coil to spark two plugs so the spark will be stronger, though still wastespark.

Honestly thats overkill, but if you have the parts for it, go for it no biggie. Sill the DIS with the stock coils works pretty well.

That is a verry good point . Now I need coil on plug . What 4 high output coils to use is another question.

Is there some concern with over drawing the stock ecu drivers while using the four inputs on the msd. I understand you could pair the inputs and have seperate outputs coil drivers from the msd but cant this cause double the current drain on the stock ecu transitors and fry your computer ? I think that this was what originally fried the do it yourself coil on plug setup.
