how long would a motor swap take ..i have a dodge avenger with a 420a and im debating on swapping that motor into my talon esi ..who knows roughly how long this would take

It really depends on your skill level and experience, and if your using hand tool or air tools. Could take you a weekend or it could take you a week. It will take you as long as you need, take you time and do everything correctly the first time. I find that rushing tends to lead to mistakes which take longer to fix.

I've almost got mine out currently...It's a pretty straightforward process. Just make sure you label all the bolts in plastic baggies and all the harness connectors! This is my first time pulling it and I've got maybe a total of 6 hours invested in it. All I have left is to unbolt the rear tranny mount.

^ agreed
take your time and do it right. No point in rushing things because you'll only make mistakes. And they can be costly ones.

Swapped engine in my 99 gsx in about a week...by the time the engine arrived i had the engine bay completely empty and cleaned..be organized!!! i use ziplock bags for bolts...like i will write "engine pan bolts" with permanent marker on the bag and put only those bolts in it...i had a 5 gallon bucket full of baggies but every bolt had a place and was accounted for..also do that for wires, lines, hoses etc...i usually use masking tape or zipties with tags...like if i unclip a wire clip i will wrap one end with tape and write "A" and the other end will also have masking tape and an "A"...so when i go to put it back in "A" plugs into "A"...also dont be afraid to take picture of complex parts or even shoot little videos...you may have a plan and assume it may take you only a week but who knows what issues you may run into...it could easily take you a few weeks...what im getting at is are you really going to remember where exactly that vacuum hose or 10mm bolt went?? be organized and take your time..good house keeping and an organized work site will also help in efficiency...an engine swap is also a good time to consider changing out some other things while you are able to easily get to them...like seals, starters, sensors etc...its possible!!! this was my first engine swap ever and i did it about 3 months after getting my gsx...i knew nothing of the engine before that...chilton became my best friend...

Yeah it would be a really good ideal to replace the front and rear main seals on the engine that you are swapping in. Do as much of the maintenance as you can while the engine is out, timing belt, water pump, maybe a new clutch if you car is a manual. Doing all of this now will save you a lot of time further down the road.
