Ok.Here goes. When i bought my car the air can mod was already done So i never messed w it.But a friend of mine pointed out that both honeycombs were missing.Ok i cant do nothing bout that till i find new can..Now other problem..I noticed that my air filter wasnt totaly sealed so i took it out and reclamped it.Then i took it for a drive hella more hp and better idle, but my ch eng light was on so i looked under hood and viola..mass was unhooked as soon as i hooked it back it idled like crap..what gives?

ok short version..Both honeycomes gone..[i didnt do it..]When mass is unplugged more hp and idles better..why is that?

get a 2g mas and call it good now you're ready to make some serious power!

This is totally wrong. The 1G and 2G mas meter air differently (have different signals for the same flow) so you can't mix and match without correcting for it with injectors or fuel controller.

When the mas came off the car started running on defaults and didn't look at the airflow anymore. You should have also gotten a code.

The reason the car does not run correctly with the mas on is because with both honeycomes removed the air flow over the wires are all messed up and erratic. This means that as the sensor tries to pick up the vortexes being generated it gets confused.

Your engine thinks the airflow is going all over the place when it really isn't and consequently can not control the car efficiently.

Actually it isn't wrong at all...it is common practice in the community to swap a 1g mas for a 2g mas...they work very similarly but the 2g mas allows more airflow and less restriction...it's been done for years and with great success...so keep that in mind when you are upgrading...

The 2G mas will always read a lower value at the same flow (unless you max out the 1G and it isn't reading correctly). This reduction in air mass reading is about equivelant to the fuel increase by going with 550s. This means if you use the stock injectors and switch to a 2G mass without some other way to raise fuel flow (afsc, afpr with alot of fuel pressure upping + fuel pump) you will not run correctly.

Please research before you tell people they can do things which will make their car run at 80% of the fuel it should be running. Not ragging on you but when you make comments affecting AFR make sure you have your information correct. Running 20% lean can melt stock pistons very quickly

http://www.geocities.com/spencerhut/talon/2g_mas.htm from the last paragraph

With the 510cc injectors installed it seems to be running fine up 17PSI. Yes, I'm watching the EGTs and A/F. It's so nice to not have that damn knock light lit solid from 5000 to redline.

http://www.dejontool.com/dsm-cip-faq.htm about halfway down

But generally speaking, if you have a hacked 1gMAS(+26% air) or 2gMAs on a 1g car (+21% air), then 550 injectors (+22% fuel) would be a good match. Likewise, 660's or 720's would be overkill (you need more air).

http://www.vfaq.com/index-main.html in the intro

If you install 550s at the same time as the 2G MAF, very little tuning should be necessary on the AFC to have the car running as strong as ever, without the MAF overrun problems.

Need more proof?

Thanks all for confusing me!LOL jk..Yea ill prob jus buy one from mitsu graveyard. They quoted me cheep enouph.I whould like 2 use a 2g mass but like they say i need bigger injectors to compensate..And yes i did some searching on it.Thanks again all..
