As the title implies I would like to know if there would be any problems associated with modifying the stock banjo bolt at the filter outlet for use with a pressure gauge.

I was going to remove the bolt and tap the top of it for a 1/8NPT fitting and run a small length of -4AN from the fitting to a fuel pressure gauge on the firewall.

I know B&M sells a kit that basically is the same thing: a banjo bolt with a 1/8" tapped hole in the top.

I am going to pull the banjo bolt off tomorrow and see if there is enough material to do this safely, any thoughts or opinions?

Thanks,

-Travis

I did it with a spare banjo bolt. It work pretty good, but I only used it to check the pressure whenever I'm trouble shooting. It's normally off the car. I work in a machine shop so I have the proper tools. You need to drill it with the correct drill size, ream it with a tapered reamer, then tap it straight. Dont forget to use lubricant while machining it. Just do it carefully.

i have one of the b&m bolts from my 1g but on my 95 it puts the guage right against the bottom of the battery. anybody know what kind of fittings i need to make a 10 inch long piece of ss line to remote mount the guage? i want to leave it on there all the time since i have a afpr

Steve: I was concerned about a lack of material, I will pull it off and take a look.

Budget 90: I have access to a machine shop, I was going to drill and tap it on a mill.

1stgen rocks: You need a 1/8NPT to -4AN fitting to go on the banch bolt, a straight -4AN female fitting to connect the SS line to the banjo bolt, and either a straight or 90* female -4AN fitting for the other end where it goes to the gauge. You will need a -4AN male to 1/8NPT female to connect to the gauge.

Well it worked out fine. I set the bolt up in the lathe and drilled it from the bottom up through the top and then turned it around and drilled the hole for the tap from the top, careful not to cut into the shoulder of the bolt too much. I had to cut the end off my tap to get the threads far enough down to make a good seal.

Now I just have the problem with having my AFPR not working....LOL. Oh, and my waterpump turned into a screamer so its down for new balance belt, timing belt and water pump. :) Good thing too, the balance belt is all cracked and nasty looking. Cheap previous owner didn't replace it when they did the timing belt..*shrug*

Thanks.
