ive used the search function and looked on their website but the issue im having is finding exactly what i need to make this work, i have a 93 w/ a 6 bolt swap and an eprom ecu. i know i need it socketed but do i need any special cables or is it included with the ostrich im going to buy it brand new.

The ostrich will come with a usb cable to plug into your laptop or whatever. The ostrich also has an eprom chip on the end of a ribbon cable that plugs into your ecu socket. As far as the tuning side goes you will not need any cables only the software.

You will still need a logging cable though since you can not log directly through the ecu on a dsm.

Here's a good thread on how to make your own if your handy with a soldering gun.

well im thinking of going with the ostrich because its 200.00 and tunerpro rt is free and dsmlink is 500+ the cost of socketing and they have primarilly the same functions.

is there a cable i can just buy? instead of bulding one? and what logging program can i use so i can run tunerpro rt and a logging program at the same time jackal?

You can use a palm emulator and run mmcd if you want to do logging and use tunerpro rt. Or you could just spend the 20 and get jackal to use for tuning and stuff and also use the logging in it, it would probably be easier to use then the tunerpro route.

Yea theres a few places around selling logging cables. Even ebay. But i dont know of anyone who makes a dsm logging cable that uses a usb. So if you have a newer laptop it probably wont have the db9 port and you will need the keyspan adapter still.

Are you running speed density? Or are you wanting to run tp for the maf compensation?

Im not familiar with logging on tp but this site should have everything you need for using tp on a 1g.

As far as tuning with tp and logging with jackal, i dont see why that wouldnt work. The tune wont transfer back and forth though.

Nothing wrong with running an ostrich and TP. If your ECU is socketed, the ostrich will plug right in. It's what I use for my car. The real question is what software will you be doing the actual tuning with? Jakal, Warewolf, etc?

I'm running jackal right now. I log using the palm logger off ebay. It works just fine. You need a keyspan usb to serial and a null modem connector if u get the palm logger. I think palm has pins 2 and 3 flipped from what a pc uses. I tuner pro rt can do a data trace but it's still a work in progress. The jackal has a built in logger but u need the keyspan single. I love the way my car drives now with SD. Its well worth the time to do the converaion

If your looking for a cable to log with on a laptop the V3 ECMcable will work with just about every logging program on a stock Ecu or chipped one aside from Ecmlink its self

This is cheaper then a keyspan usb adapter alone

The tune wont transfer back and forth though.

Not easily anyway :)

Good to know that the v3 cable works because iirc the v1 and v2 cables do not.

The cable is so easy to make. You can get the parts at an electronics surplus store for $3-5.

it is impossible to break any of the components on a serial to USB adapter, or the USB. I have hooked up every pin improperly, jumped nearly every pin to every other pin, I failed my way through it with huge balls of solder until it finally worked.

You'll probably need a USB to serial adapter anyway, you can get them off of ebay for relatively cheap, just make sure they have the FTDI chip. This makes them basically the same as a keyspan.

That's all I use. A little ball of solder, wires, and electrical tape plugged into a board like that. Then I use hyperterminal to test the connection. Find "hyperterminal" on this page and it gives a guide to test a serial comm cable.

The cable itself is a loop, so you don't have to jump anything, just have the diode the right way and the wires on the right pins.

There are a few people on the forums at DSM ECU | A Place For Car Tech Enthusiasts that are logging with tunerpro, in both SD and MAF. If there isn't a how to already set up, I'm sure someone will be able to help.

The ostrich is awesome, excelent choice. I think there are people doing the map tracing on the ostrich 2.0 now, which could be very cool in the future. Also cool, if you learn this stuff for a DSM, you can set it up on lots of other cars.

Good luck, you can do it!

I agree the cable is incredibly easy to make. I use the homebrew cable as well. It is kind of messy though.

If the link v3 logging cable works like stated above i would just go with that. $39 and its usb. The keyspan is almost that.

Oh it does heres a couple screenshots from awhile ago of mmcd on a palm emulator and Tuner pro with a custom adx file Ill put up some better ones an of a couple other programs when Im not on my Phone

This is with a Non Eprom Ecu an V3 Ecmlink Cable

I used T Pro/ostrich and MMCD on my car. It's great. Personally tho, don't by the ostrich because you think you are saving money. Your not. The extra money that ecm link costs pays for not having to #### with it to get it to work.

Anyway, buy the ostrich because you like to tinker.

Also, having an Ostrich and TunerPro can offer you some flexibility as far tuning multiple cars(other DSMs,GM,Porsche, etc), without the need to purchase another Ostrich.

Since TunerPro can be downloaded for free, if you haven't already, obtain the software and check it out. You can download .bin,.xdf,and .adx file for DSM from the TunerPro site as well. Upload the files into TunerPro and tinker around to see if it is right for you. Here is a nice guide as far as code editing that can aid in the learning process. Like it has already been stated, the DSM ECU forum is a great place to gain some knowledge, and for seeking answers to things you may not fully grasp.
There are some awesome folks over there!

I also run TP RT and the MMCD stuff. Learning curve is steep but, the guys on DSMECU are great.

The old tmo logger can be found if you search around. If you put this into a google search you'll yield results:

edit: btw ^^^ your comment helped nothing in this thread. Thank you for sharing with us an option that was not mentioned by the OP. I think I suggest a peanut butter and jelly sandwich next to the OP for his tuning issues.

I just wish someone had the code for the TMO logger... that'd be nice. Someone has to have had it because they changed it for 5v wb signal on egrt input.

Did you need drivers to get the v3 cable to work outside of dsmlink? I have ostrich 2.0 e/ jackal on a v3 cable right now and can't get it to log because it doesn't recognize the cable.
