i took the head to the shop to get cleaned and re decked it wasn't that bad i just wanted to be sure since im going with the metal gasket but the shop told me that the head was maxed out to go with a thicker gasket that i should be fine. the .040 gasket was given to me so my concern is that i want to no if this is thinner then oem hg and if so how thick of a hg should i go with

FYI you need to make sure your looking at the compressed thickness of the gasket and not the thickness it is out of the box. Once a headgasket is torqued down it will measure thinner then when it was new. Most companies will post this measurement but just make sure this is the measurement your looking at.

what is your head thickness? you said maxed out...
so based off that...

a new 4g63 head is 5.200" thick
AREA min spec is 5.185" thick

so take the .015 thickness diffrence and add that to the stock gasket thickness..

Hey, I just bored my block out from .020 over to .040 over, rather than making a new thread I was wondering what you guys typically run. I use to always buy the OEM MLS but extremepsi.com says it's only good for .020 over. I've also been told cometic ones suck. I would like to run a .040 over OEM MLS but I'm not sure if there is such a thing. I've confused the hell out of the mitsubishi by me so if anyone has any part numbers or links i'd really appreciate it!

Thanks,
Ashley
