Hello everyone. any help would be great! i recently bought an 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GST and there are a few problems .
1st:
its leaking oil on the driver side.

Here are 2 pictures i took.

2nd: i live in iceland and its very cold during the winter. and when i try to turn the car on outside (or after its been kept outside for few hours/Days) it wont turn on but when its kept indoor there is no problem. ive checkd the battery and alternator and they are both ok. bad starter maybe?

3rd: one of the headlights wont turn on. the parking light/turn signal light works but not the rest. it has a xenon system. sometimes it kicks in but its really rare!!:banghead:

Anyways its a great car aside from these problems. my plan is to rebuild it. motor, exterior, interior. from top to bottom :D

Here is a picture of the car. and apologies for bad grammar and english. born and raised in iceland :)

**EDIT**
RESOLVED

1. The oil leak seems to be a blown head gasket. and the problem is that the oil has somehow gotten its way into the water for the radiator and the hose is all hard and swollen up and im told if i keep drivin the car this way it could effect the cooling of the engine. so thats not an option so im going to get this fixed monday!

2. the connection to The alternator was bad after that was fixed everything runs smoothly and i have no problems at all.

3. the amp for the xenon in the headlight that didint work is dead. ill have to get a hold of a new one.... they only sell it in pairs here -.-

so thats it :D thanks for all the advice non the less ;)

Let me start on some basics.I would recommend you do your maintanance, such as timing, seals and belts.Second I would run some 10w-30 oil sence its alot colder in your location that would help on cold starts.Make sure your spark fuel ignition is good and starter is good, make sure wiring is all good. That should give you a head start on getting things going.Your car looks good tho.

Thanks for the advice :) had some problems with the pictures. got links up now :)

the car was repainted a few months back by previous owner. and i agree it looks good its driven about 90.000 miles or as i would say in iceland 144.000 km

looks like the oil pan gasket may need to be replaced...

as for the headlights... the xenon system should have relays, and or ballasts, its possible one of them is bad? and should be able to order parts to replace.. seen a lot on ebay for cheap.. all new systems around 50$...
if it turns on sometimes, Id try turning everything on, and moving wires around, tapping on ballast or relay and see if I could pinpoint where the problem may be.

hope that helps!

For your cold start issue i would get a battery with more cold cranking amps. This might help. Also check all the wiring and grounds.

Thicker oil might cause longer start up times in the cold. Also oil on driver side? Is that by the crankshaft pulley, if so main bearing seal possibly. Headlight problem could be a bad bulb or ballast or even connection.

Well i checkd out the leak and it seems to be coming from the valve cover on the front right side in the corner possibly leaking down to where i thought the leak came from in the first place.... blown head gasket? might explain the white smoke coming from the exhaust
