Ok i have a stock 97 gsx and the check engine light went on the other day. It turns out to be misfire in cylinder number four. I belive there is carbon build up and the wires need to be changed. It started doing it after i changed my plugs. On on of the cylinders there was silicon or something in that nature the fell inside on the cylinder. I drove with it for few days and boom check engine came up. now i bought that mopar combustion chamber cleaner and i sprayed it in the pcv valve(my friend did it for me i was try to my the car idle) we cleared the code and i drove for two days and the code came up again. Now i really dont know what to do anymore. I was thinking in puting mopar into the cylinders for 24 hours and maybe that would help. I also have 175 across the boar(compression).
ANybody have any ideas about this please help.

Pull your plugs and verify that they are gapped correctly.

*Edit* Actually, are you using Platinum plugs?

I bought NGK plugs but i never gaped them. My friends never gapped his and he did not had a misfire issue so i really dont think it is. I just dont want anything big to break like the coil pack. I just wanted to hear what other people did to check why is it doing that. I'll tr to buy the gapping tool and gap the plugs tommorow but i am not sure that it will solve my problem. anyone had this kind of problem please tell me how you fixed it and what cause this.

THanks, MIke
My english is not the best so sorry for the spelling.

Yes, I would start back with your plugs.
Make sure they're the proper ones. BPR6ES. Do not go with a colder plug since your car is stock.
Always check the gaps. Gap them to .028

If the plugs do not help, your plug wires could be bad.

Just for the fun of it, unplug the injector and then push the plug back on it. This will help to make sure the connector is making good contact with the injector.

This is a good start for now.

If you haven't yet ....change your stock plug wires to something like Magnecor's. Your stock wires might be arcing to something metal near them. Best way to check is at night with the engine running spray a little water on them and watch for the spark to jump out.

so you guys think its the plugs and wires that need to be checked? What about the silicone that i droped in the cylinder? Is that really bad or it just got burned with no side effects? I am gona try everything on sunday so, i geuss live and see what happens :coy:

and yes i do have BPR6ES just not gapped. I'll do it on sunday. And how can i clear the code wihtout a scanner or a logger? Just pull the wires off the battery and touch them because thats what i was told and i really dont like that idea.

Yes start with the plugs and wires. Since you did not have the problem until you changed the plugs, this makes more since that it's the plugs. If it's not that, we will go to the next thing.
Dropping stuff into your cylinders is bad. Hopefully it was pushed out.

DO NOT touch the battery cables together to reset the ECU.
If you do, you will see a beautiful blue spark and hear a loud cracking/poping sound ROFL

I have reset the ECU before by just removing one of the battery cables. Take it off, wait just about 30 secs and reconnect it. It should reset it. There is also a fuse you can pull to reset the ECU.

Good luck

yea, you should gap the plugs, i think for stock, its around 30 or so. then when u put them back in, make sure they in there good. did u use any dielectric grease when u put the plugs and wires in?wut about antisieze on the plug threads?

um i didnt do anything before the plugs. I just put them in. But i will spray mopra chamber cleaner into my cylinder since i did drop some silicone in there. I will let it sit for 24 hour and then take what ever is still in the cylenders out, change oil, gap the plugs and go from there. any reasons why i should not put that mopar into my cylinders? I am doing it today, yesterday went swiming all day, hopefully that will help. Then i'll try to reset the ecu by taking the wire off and let it sit for like 24 hours hapefully it will reset it. Then on like wendsday i'll let you know whats going on. Thanks for the help. without dsmtuners i would never be able to do anything to my car. so , thanks guys.

Mike

ok i sprayed the mopar into the cylinders and next day i took it out but in cyl #4(first one from tranny) i didnt take anything out because it was empty. Is this why i have misfire issues. The compression shos the most psi in this cyl. I clear the code and didnt gap the plugs yet bc i dont have the tool. Why do misfire happens? Can anyone tell me. Wires and plugs and coil pack is first but is there anything alse that could make this? Some one please help. Changing oil and gapping the plugs today after exams.

Thanks, Mike

I am having the same problems with my 2g, I changed plugs last week and put my 660 injectors in on Sunday, car was fine untill a few days ago, since then it has thrown that code four times. My gap is good, plugs look new, I don't know what i should try next.

Well i think we are still waiting for you to gap plugs, and replace the wires.

To clean out your pistons, use SeaFoam, suck it in thru the intake. Do a search, you will find out how to do it (thru brake booster line into intake).

After you do this, you will need to clean your plugs as well.

Yeah dropping something into the spark plug holes is not good! Silicone? What was it you dropped in there exactly? Was it in number 4?

i had misfiring and stumbling wot at around 4k and up, so i just gap the plug at .028 and it solve my misfiring problem now my car runs fine..

When I had that engine code it was bad wires and I replacd them and reset the ECU by putting the postive and negative to gether for a few mins. You might also want to check to see if you are getting spark from the Coil.
