Ok so this is a 92 Eclipse GS. There is a hole in the flex pipe so the car is very loud. Will this hurt anything untill i get it fixed in a few days? Also, the part of the ground effects on both sides are missing but i have them. where do i get some new clips at? or can i use something else? And after i drive the car for awhile and then turn it off, its hard to start back up. Like it will spit and sputter for a lil while.

Ok thanks. I am VERY paronoid atm. I was cruising behind my friend who has a 93 talon nt and he pulled over so i pulled up next to him. i thought he wanted to tell me something. but then hes like THE CAR JUST DIED! i told him to pop the hood. I told him to take off the T-belt cover off. Then i said nvm because i saw the timing belt sticking out. I almost fainted! Anyway, im paronoid. I have this problem. When i baby the car, the CEL comes on. I launch hard and it goes off. Could the ICS be causing this and the starting issue?

Test all your sensors with a voltimeter, its pretty easy to do and a good way to start trouble shooting your problem

This thread is going stray real quick....

A HOLE in exhaust will cause LESS back pressure. This CAN damage the exhaust valves (as I previously mentioned) over a very extended period of time. THREE INCH EXHAUST on a normally aspirated car is retarded and wrong. I wouldn't go over 2.25 with a high flow cat, you will lose power.

Also to the OP you can most likely eliminate the flex pipe with a piece of straight pipe if flex is expensive as it was when I bought it like 6 years ago. Just a possible solution for cheaper.

About the exhaust, if you haven't already gotten the flex pipe, you can goto Advanced, Autozone or A&A Auto (I'm sure others will have them). There are two types of flex pipe; standard braided flex pipe and a flex "tube". The second one is much cheaper and I use one on my exhaust and it works fine and doesn't leak. Easy to cut and slip onto exhaust then just clamp it down. You can weld it also, but it's thin metal. They come in a length of IIRC 1 foot.

I don't think so, I have a 2.5" Pacesetter cat.back exhaust, there's a reason its called a 'performance upgrade'

I will also try swapping out the ICS since i still have everything from my talon. I am just VERY paronoid and i am going to buy a timing belt VERY soon. What are those blue ones called? And how much? Im sure MachV will have them so i will check that quick.

Yea i saw that flex pipe yesterday. I didnt think it was cheap so i didnt bother. I will try using the flex pipe from my talon. Thats still in good shape. Thanks for the info because i may need this down the road or near future.

Yea 2.5 is like the max wanted size in my eyes. I definatly wouldnt go over 2.5. I may just leave my stock exhaust and get a cat and a muffler.

Yeah MachV has them, I got mine off eBay, it's a Gate Racing timing belt (came with balance shaft belt too) excellent quality

Personally, just stick with OEM timing parts. It's going to be cheaper and as solid as you need it to be not to mention RELIABLE. I would only switch over to a "stronger" belt if I was constantly seeing hi-boost, racing or maybe a show car. Cant go wrong with OEM. Don't forget to also change out the waterpump and tensioner/pulleys along with the otherbelts.

If i swap the ICS from my Talon, is it just as easy as unbolting the one thats currently on it and then bolting the other on and plugging it in?

Yes, just test the motor to make sure it's good. There is an o-ring in there. I reused mine and just lubed it with that Danco waterproof grease for o-rings to make sure it sealed good.

so when i took the grinder to my muffler that was a bad idea?
it's a stock (I think) 90 tsi
it feels like it is a little bit faster after i cut it

mrtalonawd95 you wont get excessive back pressure with a whole in the flex pipe or anywhere in the exhaust you need back pressure for your car to run right thats why anything over a 3" pipe is just wasting money and time your exhaust valves need backpressure to operate correctly. and i stated before you most likely will not have any damage. to the OP just patch it however you see fit.

1. i wasnt referring to you.

2. backpressure doesnt have anything to do with your exhaust valves. backpressure has to do with exhaust pulses and scavenging. your VE is affected by exhaust and intake flow.
