I have a 97 GST with 96000 miles on it. I have a lot of trouble shifting, thought maybe the clutch or throw out bearing was going bad. I decided to bleed the clutch just to see if it would help and when i went to put more fluid in the master cylinder i saw that the fluid was thick and metalic. I was wondering if maybe the slave cylinder is grinding possibly or what else could it be???thanks

Don't listen to eg-six, your clutch hydraulic fluid and transmission fluid is completely seperate.

The metal flakes in your clutch fluid is most likely alluminum from either your master or slave cylinder bores. Gouging or scratching of the slave/master cylinder bore will leave traces of aluminum in your hydraulic fluid.

This would also explain your shifting difficulties. Replacing the damaged cylinder (slave, master or both) and a complete bleeding of the clutch hydraulics is the correct way to fix your problem. I suggest you inspect both and determine which, if not both should be replaced.

Rebuilding the cylinders will not cut it since the bores are most likely damaged and must be replaced. Also be sure to completely bleed all the old fluid to avoid alluminum particles from damaging your new master/slave cylinder.

Good luck

well i cleaned out the resevoir and blew the lines out with a compressor and put a new slave cylinder on...my car shifts nice and smooth now.

Good Shit! :thumb:

Try replacing your underhood shifter cable bushings with roller bearings for more smooth and precise shifting.
