Messed up wheel gap.

I was thinking about upgrading my stock suspension, so I was curious what my current wheel gap was so I measured it, it's not incredibly accurate because of finding the right place on the tire to measure from.

Well here are my measurements of wheel gap in inches...

Front:

Drivers Side: 3 11/16

Passenger Side: 4 1/4

Rear:

Drivers Side: 3 1/4

Passenger Side: 4 1/4


I don't know if the body is seriously bent out of alignment or if the suspension is screwed, but I'm pretty sure one side shouldn't ride an inch higher than the other side and the front driver side is half an inch higher than the rear drivers side. I don't have a front steel bumper in right now so that might be why the front is higher, but the passenger side is the same on the front as the back.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
Well, a lot of 2Gs list to the left. But that's rather a lot and I didn't think it was such an issue for 1Gs. As to the differences, do you have a sun-roof? 2Gs with sun-roofs have the torsional stiffness of an over-cooked noodle. Half an inch difference wouldn't surprise me very much.

Try swapping the springs left to right. And measure their free length in the process. See if you have weird sagging issues. After all, it's a relatively old car and most cars are referred to as "she." [Sorry.]

Haha, that's terrible.

Ya I might swap the springs, but then I would think that swapping the shocks would be necessary also, I think I'll wait on that one.

What about getting an autobody shop to look at it, do you think they could tell me if it is the body?
 
Heres the oldschool answer from 1000 AA?'s. Not much of an "answer" but seems pretty common.

Why does my car seem to lean to the left?

They just do. Conjecture on this subject has been wide and varied for many years, but nobody has quite been able to finger the exact reason. The best theory thus far is that the lean is caused by the engine and driver being on the left-hand side. Nobody has complained thus far that it affects any part of the ride quality of the car, although a few people have commented that the right rear of the car tends to rattle a bit more. This may be because the lower left front tends to unload the right rear suspension slightly.

(Please note that this is the original unkillable thread, and not very interesting. Resist the temptation to reopen the question.)
 
I was also thinking about that. I wonder if you adjusted the coil-overs so that your car sat level, would one side have more travel, and would this be a problem, say if one side fully compressed before the other?
 
Yep. Coilovers (incl. a GC kit) allows you to level your car. Of course, it also allows you to screw it up more.
