Melling oil pump/front cover for 4G63?

I have my block all apart right now, and I think I'm finally going to retire my 79K original oil pump.

I have a Melling pump sitting here on my desk and it's mine for about $150 if I want it. It includes the gears, seals, and gaskets. If I buy an OEM pump, I'd be spending closer to $300 for everything.

I sell these Melling pumps all day long to the V8 crowd and they have great sucess with them, but there seems to be little info regarding this brand on this site.

Has anyone else ever used the Melling pump for their 4G63? If so, please share your experience.
 
Do you have a pic of it Paul? The last one that I had at the store was an OEM in the Melling box. I'm curious if they are using a different supplier now. Melling had told me they don't produce one, they buy and rebox.

No, I don't have a picture. Taking pictures inside of the facility is forbidden (they don't even allow the use of camera phones).

Interesting info, though. Is there anything I can psychically check on it to see if it's re-packaged OEM?

Yeah, I read in the Dsmtalk thread about the reboxed oem pumps, that would be nice! Melling is the "go to" pump for v8 gm,ford, and mopar engines. I would be surprised if their own pump would be a complete pos.
Everyone disses the Topline pumps as well, I ran one for 10k miles with no issues before selling the car. I know that isnt that very much mileage in total, though.

You weren't joking, and to think that people have an issue with our Mod team over here.. haha!

I'm guessing you're trying to save a buck on a front case/oil pump so I figured I'd ask about rebuilding the stock one. I've read that you can replace the oil pump pulley and the oil pump gear/shaft, is there a reason you don't just do this? I understand that all moving parts will eventually wear out but do the gear and pulley replacements really make a difference? I'd have guessed that the hole in the front case that accepts the gear would wear out and not the gear and pulley themselves but if rebuilding a front case produces a good result, then that would be an even cheaper avenue?

The sad part is the only information that has been gathered seems to be based of the experiences and/or opinions of others. More of a he said, she said, situation.
 
So I in need to buy one THIS WEEK. You guys are saying that Melling is a bad or good oil pump? Is it good enough? I read mixed reviews and I just cant buy an oem right now(price).
