1G Me dumb. Do I have bent valves now?

Well after finally figuring out why I was not getting spark I got the car started and then I turned it off, then I tried starting it again and it would not start.. Ok I noticed the crank bolt on the ground and I forgot I left the dang socket wrench on the crank bolt so it loosened and took out the crank bolt, so I am assuming my timing just really messed up. So I took the timing belt off and It was like hard to move the crank so I think it was because the valves were in the way due to jumped timing, but what I noticed is the crank sprocket that the timing belt goes on kind of separated a little from the balance shaft sprocket behind it. You guys think I bent any valves.

If it skip timing like you said maybe, but since it happened fast you might be ok. re time the engine and see if she runs normal if not you might have bend a few.

More than likely you bent valves. Pull the valve cover real quick and see if your rockers are laying in the tray, if so, bent valves, if not, maybe not bent. If the rockers are still attached... Pull your plugs and using an adapter push some compressed air into the cyliders, listen for a hissing noise of escaping air. If you hear it at/near the throttle body... intake valves, if you hear it at the exhaust manifold or out the tailpipe... exhaust valves. If you hear both, then both.

Would the noise be more of a air sound or what? Oh BTW that was one of the first things I did was take the valve cover off and check the rockers, all were still in place and even hand moved crank to make sure they are moving. But you can still have bent valves even if rockers are in place?

Yes, valves can still be bent if the rockers are attached. The noise you should be listening for will be a hiss/rush of moving air. If the valves are bent, they will not seal and air will escape into either the intake or exhaust tract or both.

Are you sure the timing jumped or are you just worried? When you repaired it, did everything work ok? The crank should be hard to turn, i would be worried if it was easy to turn. that would mean u have no compression. Do a compression test on the car. if you have compression across all 4, then no bent valves. When my timing belt snapped in my GSX years ago, it would turn over and never once would it compress. Bent every valve in the head. sounded like it wasn't turning over, but it was.

Well maybe I am just worried but when I get the time Im just gonna re-time everything just in case. But last question.. The crank sprocket that the timing belt goes on why does it seem to be a little separated away from the round timing mark thing that is behind the sprocket? That round aluminum timing mark thing behind the sprocket that times the crank is loose.. or is this normal? I could just be worried again.

I was thinking the same thing, and you should be able to see if that pin popped out of the cam gear and then seated again after it made a full rotation. Id take the tire off and turn the crank manually to see if it hits anything, and even check the time. Seems like it would have made a nasty noise if it hit those valves.

Put the piston at top dead center and shoot some air down into the cylinder as already stated. It's the fastest and easiest way to see if you bent valves.
