Is there anything wrong with hooking it uo like this? I can only get 12 psi in 1st. unpluged WG and I get 23. I have a brand new slowboy racing MBC.

its hooked up right.. do you have a bleeder hole on the MBC? I made one with a hole, it didnt work right, then I plugged the hole, and it worked..

and what is the range on that boost controller? different spring rates for varying amounts of boost control..

Try a higher gear. Typically the low gears will not result in signifcant load on the motor, and not allow the turbo to boost to its set PSI. Callibration of the boost controller should be set in higher gears like third. Also, build a leak tester and test the intake system for leaks, as it sounds like you just started modding, and 18 year old gaskets will have a tendency to leak. Fixing leaks will result in better boost response and an overall increase in engine operation.

with a ball spring type, you have to have a bleeder hole. otherwise one of two things happen:3
1. the ball dosn't seal well enough and it leaks. without the bleeder hole it has nowhere to go but the WG and it renders the BC inefective.
2. The ball does seal, but when pressure over comes it and opens the WG it is trapped, holding the wastegate open for all eternity, and you never build boost again :(

also,

Call slowboy see what they have to say. Maybee find a stronger spring.

yeah.. haha.. Im tarded.. you should ALWAYS do your tuning and whatnot in 3rd gear... if you ever see someone on a dyno, the will drive the car up to 3rd or 4th gear then do a run from very low in the rpm, all the way up to redline..

Engine has just had a fresh rebuild with 1200 miles now all new gaskets and new turbo.

In 3rd gear I only get like 8 to 9 psi

wow.. it is literally the same thing that I made... o yeah.. DO NOT run your turbo without the waste gate.. you will pop your engine..

ummm... do you have anything else hooked up? like, are you tapping your boost gauge in the same line as your MBC?

Boost gauge is tapped in on the intake manifold.

but have tried a higher gear? you are not going to reach full boost in 1st and most likely not 2nd(unless you got a bb turbo.. LOL), but in 3rd you will.. try it like that.. bet it will go past 12.. and who would you be racing in 1st anyway? haha.. you want to set your boost in 3rd gear..

I have been having trouble with this forever now. I first spent 100 bucks for a mbcfor an external wg. Than 1 week before the firts drag strip trip of the year i quick order this and i only got like 2 more psi compared to my exernal only bc. AHH 15.00 in 1/4 here I come.

my bad.. when I posted that, I didnt see the other one.. you need to check for boost leaks then..

this MBC takes pressure coming from the j-pipe (which normally, at ~7psi, moves the actuator, which opens the wastegate) and alters the pressure so that it takes more pressure to move the ball bearing in the mbc to make ~7psi on the actuator.. Im thinking that maybe there is a leak that is not making the pressure go from the j pipe to the actuator..

Have you done a boost leak test? also found on vfaq.com
