I have a 91 Talon TSI and was driving down the street today and got stuck in 3rd gear. I can shift into other gears way too easy but tranny stays in 3rd gear... checked linkages they were fine.... Did I smoke my tranny? Car has 89,000 miles on it... :(: PLEASE HELP maybe froze up clutch??? stuck in gear.

The only possibilities I can think of are linkage or a broken shift fork or broken rail end. Linkage is easy to check. Check the levers at the transmisssion. If it's in neutral but acts like its in gear then you broke something inside.

Exactly... sounds like it might be a shifting fork. Keep us updated.

Also could be shift fork roll pins. Kinda nostalgic now 14 years later when weak shift fork roll pins aren't a big discussion anymore. We here actually found that heavy clutches combined with driver inexperience was breaking forks and pins. Couldn't tell you the last time we've ran steel forks.

I had a similar issue before, I thought my tranny was done, but when i took it off I found it was in fact the clutch. It was an exeddy clutch and one of the springs had broken out of the clutch itself. Tranny was fine. Id take it off, as you have to really, and just check the clutch out then check the fork

If the shift levers are in neutral and it still acts like its in gear it cant be a clutch. A broken clutch would simply not disengage so no matter what the input shaft would spin just like it does when you're just sitting there in neutral. A broken clutch might keep you from coming out of gear but with car off it shouldn't do this.

That would be awesome.... I will obviously pay you for your time.... I know it must be a problem in the tranny I have all tools necessary to fix. :)

yeah I hope it is just a shift fork.... I think it is too THANKS :)
