MASSIVE INTERIOR UPDATE. (all black) TONS OF PICS.

Well i've been working on tons of things over the past months and I havn't really been keeping you guys updated, So I figured i'd show you guys some of the stuff i've been working on.

1st two pics are of my new exhasut setup my gsx sway bar and control arms.

3rd pic is my custom oe shortened antenna.

4th and 5th pics are of custom plates I made out of sheet metal to plug the hole on the interior for my cf mirrors. (Don't mind the rust I havn't got around to clearing them and it's been raining)

6th 7th and 8th pics are of my black interior. (reappolstered sun visors and pillars covered in black fabric.)

Last pics are of some undercoating I sprayed in my trunk and part of my rear seats (done tonight) that will hopefully help with the harsh road noise. I used 2 cans. The coating is very thick. I purcahsed it for $4.49 a can at a local autoparts store. When I reassemble my interior tomorrow I will tell if it helped dampen the sound.

How did you get your door panels black and how did you do the sun visors? Also how about the road noise?

My door panels came black along with alot of my other interior. To do the sunvisors you have to pry them apart with a screw driver or other flat tool. Then you should take off the oem fabric. Trace it on to new fabric and cut it out. You will then need some type of spray on adhesive. Spray the plastic on the sun visors. Make sure you use alot and allow it to get tacky before applyying the new fabric. Make sure the material you have is somewhat stretchy so you can bend it around the corners. After you have the visor succesfully wrapped gorilla glue it back together. You should use clamps to hold it together overnight to allow the gorilla glue and spray adhesive to fully dry. You can also take out the mirror bezel and paint it to a coor of your choice. Hope that helped. As for the road noise I am not quite sure yet because I havnt reassembled everything because the coating is still not dry. I will let you know as soon as I get the interior back together.

Your so lucky about the stock black pannels. I unfortunately have tan and i plan to use duplicolor vynal and fabric paint to dye them black. I asked about the visors because i diddnt know they came apart. thanks

How much did it cost you to get the exhaust re routed underneath the rear crossmember? because I want to do the same thing.

And how did you shorten your antenna?

Well you can always put in dyna-mat, I was just hoping for a stupid cheap remedy.

You can get knock off dynamat on ebay. They sell Fat mat brand on ebay for $100 for 100sqf.

To the OP:
Which undercoat did you use? It looks like it has a slight brownish tint to it. You must have got the cheap stuff in the white and black cans. If so, that was a big mistake. Trust me I have used it before. Next time get the high dollar 3M stuff in the gold can. Reason being, the cheap stuff never fully dries. A month from now, open your hatch and touch the undercoat with your finger and see if it isnt still wet. Heck, try the same thing 6 months from now, it doesn't matter.

I used some really garbage kind of undercoating that never did dry like you said. I ended up spending about 10 hours scraping it off any visible spots under the trunk mat and then cleaning the surface with mineral spirits. My car is now 100% back together. I painted my home made sheet metal mirror bezels flat black and allowed them to bake under a heat lamp. I am very pleased with the finished product. I will post up pics shortly.

i have some questions bout the 3m stuff?...does it really help with road noise?... my car is white... so what color is the finish? and if not white finish, can it be painted over without compromising it?

If youre looking for something cheap in the sound deadening department, you could do something I just did on mine. I tried the undercoat thing the other day and it didnt do anything to help road noise. I went to the fabric store and bought some black felt like material for around 3 bucks a yard. One can of 3M super 77 spray adhesive should take care of the whole area. I ended up cutting out my spare tire mount and jack mount too. with the hatch cover in and the felt glued down, it made a world of difference. Probably not as much as dynamat but its good enough for me.

Im in the process of building a new trunk floor right now with an extra door to take advantage of the unused space from the spare tire well. Im sure with that in too, its gonna make even more of a difference. So far all the materials that are going in the car weigh in at about 8 pounds. I think thats something I could live with putting in. I guess im not quite as concerned with weight savings as most of you other guys. Keep your eye out for a build thread.

kool idea... i have a summitt racing battery box back there now.. i had a local stereo install shop build me a cover that cut round the box so i have done everything except the dynamat.... guess thats next.. thu, im getting some vibration from that area now so i need to look into that.. any ideas?

Did you just paint the handle on the pass side and the sunroof trim?

Yes I did along with the sunroof bezel. It has held for months without scratching.

If you decide to just clean the surface of the plastic and paint it on a hot sunny day outdoors so the paint can bake on to the plastic. Or if you don't have a sunny day coming up anytime soon heat the paint can and the pieces you want to paint under a heat lamp, run outside and paint them, and then bring them inside to dry. What ever you do do not let the pieces dry in the cold or the paint will become dicolored and splotchy. If the paint ever chips just lightely go over the entire piece with another coat of paint.

Well heres a big update. I just got done reupholstering my headliner with the same fabric I used on my pillars and sunvisors. I also got a TomTom for christmas that I perminately wired to my car but it can still be unplugged and taken out, and sinked to my computer. Another thing I did was paint my custom made mirror bezels black to match the rest of my interior. Tell me what you think.
