Note, im not stupid, ive been in DSMs for many years, but this has got me puzzled.

I will try to explain as simply as possible what has been happening to my car.

First off, you should know that I have not boost leak tested it yet due to a lack of proper tools to do so.

Here is my mod list (the one in my profile is inaccurate);1991 Eclipse GSX, 255lph HP fuel pump, FIC 650 cc injectors, Aeromotive FPR, stock internals (2G pistons, 1G rods), stock head, magnus sheet metal intake manifold. SBR cast port/polished exhaust manifold, Evo III 16G turbo ported w/ upgrade WG flapper, supra sidemount IC w/ all hard piping/silicone, alcohol injection, GM MAF + MAFT, HKS 272 cams, mitsu metal HG, ARP studs, Shep tranny, ACT 2600 w/ street disc, SBR manual boost controller, 3” turbo back, DSMlink.

I am having a really tough time considering my laptop just broke on me and as soon as it broke, I started running into problems. Im just not sure what problem/s I am running into right now.

While driving the car I can get into “boost” according to my gauge, but it feels like the car is going nowhere. at ¼ throttle I can get to 15psi on the gauge and the car just feels like it is running without boost, or very very low boost. Sometimes in low throttle situations when im starting to get into what my gauge calls “boost” the car will buck and I will hear what sounds to be popping noises, then it will studder, then *sometimes* take off into actual real boost like it should. Other times it will studder, pop and still not go into boost. I can go WOT and the gauge will read 20psi, but it’s a very gradual 25psi. when the car was running right I would fully spool around 4k and have 25psi of real boost. Now, even when I go WOT, I don’t see the gauge getting close to even 20psi by 5500! Basically, my car has no power, its not running NA, but almost feels like it. I don’t know if these are symptoms of a stuck WG, a major boost leak, a major exhaust leak (which im sure I would hear, but there is nothing), or my MBC isn’t working properly, what sounds more probable? Even when its building up “boost” according to my gauge, the car feels almost NA, like im not even turbo’d. the BOV still releases what compressed air it is running off of. Im just stumped at this point. Ive tried running w/o alcohol too, trying to see if I was running way too rich with alky and it was causing these problems, but to no avail…(note, when doing vaccum driving, the car runs perfectly) Im also having problems at start up, the car will die, then I can start it back up…go to drive it and it stutters like the injectors have air or something in them…or they are starved for fuel…but when the car warms up that problem isn’t there anymore. Until it is warm though, the car will die every time I decelerate and come to a stop at a stop light, etc.

Also, why would my gauge read boost if there really isn’t any? How am I getting manifold pressure like that?

When was the last time your car ran well? Was there a modification/noise/smell that occured immediately prior to this issue?

The symptoms (bucking/poping) sound like an over-rich condition, but a little more info might help narrow the cause down.

Sounds very much like a boost leak, what work have you done prior to this problem. I would borrow a notebook and see what's going on.

i hadnt done any work to the car prior. all my mods were done at the build time, everything done at once which was about 2 months ago now. this is the first problem i have had with the car. i dont think that it is running that super rich. even the baseline for my 650's on DSMlink was pretty accurate. i have it -40 across the board because of my alky injection. one thing that was mentioned to me was a clogged cat. i have a 3" high flow cat on the car (yes, i know...all that work and then put a cat on it...emmisions laws here make it hard for anybody to weld a test pipe in for me). im just not sure what it is. im going to test for boost leaks tonight hopefully and then i can go from there.

the last time the car ran really well was about 3 days ago. i had just been out tuning on it the night prior and everything was fine. no noise, mod, smell prior. what kind of info do you want?

Sounds like you might have a malfunctioning wastegate...or the arm could not be hooked up. This happened to me, and I still was showing boost...(not a lot), the car was a dog though.

Or MBC could be malfunctioning. Maybe you could take it out of the loop...and hook it straight to a boost source? That way you could eliminate it from the equation, to see if it fixes the problem with out it.

Just a thought...

Later,
Patrick
