Main Bearings

OK, I was pulling the main bearings out of the saddle to clean the oil passages I noticed a few of them were marked up. Now, the day I was plastigaging the clearances I had to take my son to the E.R. and the crank sat in the saddles with the bearings in them with no caps on for 2 days. The only thing I did was plastigaged each bearing twice, torqued to 50 ft/pounds. Could me leaving the crank in there for two days do that for some reason? Most of the marks look like the coating wearing off, but there are two if I run my finger nail over them I can feel them, and those marks are right on the tangs. Any guesses?

mine did the same thing, I couldn't figure it out either. Maybe something with the assembly lube?

I just got new ones.

A friend and I came to the conclusion that the way they are packaged is the culprit. I let them sit in the box a long time and they were handled pretty rough. The dealership seems to agree with me and took them back in exchange for new ones.

Nope, I just had to go drop the old ones off.
