MAFT questions

I'm sure you guys have heard this a million times, but I'm having trouble finding the answer. What does a maft do for you? I'd like a maft explained kinda deal. I'm planing on running the fuel system redo in vfaq and running 2.5 pipes to my FMIC. Would MAFT or SAFC be better? Right now im car is running extremely lean and I can't figure out why would the fuel system redo and a piggyback really help? I've done the pump rewire and it didn't make a diffence with my walbro right now.

upgrade you fuel pump, injectors and get a fuel pressure regulator, get a safc w/ datalogger and tune, i'd fix the running lean problem quick
