1995 eclipse GST.
Having problems with the maf sensor. Car was like this when I bought it. Why would someone do this to the ground?

It does just look like a ground circuit. If the ECU ground was bad he’d have a bunch of issues.

That is a ground wire as stated obviously. It also ties together with other sensors grounds as well like posted in diagram above.

It is also important that this wire is grounded ONLY by the ecu. Ecu ground and chassis ground are 2 different things.

I suggest doing a proper fix and remove it from the harness. May want use a multi meter on said wire and at the ecu pin to see if it’s damaged. I would do this before replacing the ecu.
