M/T wont move

we just bought a 1996 GST spyder, guy said it had a bad clutch so we trailered it home. heres what we were told about the car.
it has a 6 bolt engine swap
a big 16 g turbo
cold air intake
greddy BOV recirculated to intake
wideband sensor AEM
SAFC 2
and precision 550 cc injectors

the car is in ecellent shape with no rust at all and covertible top works perfect and has perfect leather interior. i didnt think 1600 was a bad deal but now to the problem. got the car home started it up put it in 1st gear let out the clutch and car did not move but the trans made like knocking noises inside, you can shift through the gears with the engine running and clutch not pushed in and it dont grind or anything. it is hard to pull the shifter into 2 and 4th though. clutch feels a little funny when pressing it. does anybody have any ideas could the trans be shot. i am pulling the trans out tommorow so hopefully i get some help. thanks alot.

it could be the clutch and its not engaging so your able to shift without pushing in clutch pedal. if clutch looks good make sure both axles are pushed in all the way. If one axle isnt fully in trans then the splines on the axle are barely touching the differential which will cause it to spin but the car wont move and the splines barely grabbing could be the sounds you were hearing. hope this helps post your progress and ill try to help as much as i can.

ok thank you. after work i will check them out. the guy i got it from said he came to a stop and went to go and it didnt move so he had it towed to his house and it sat there, he didnt look to see what the problem was.

I have had that happen before. The car just stopped with no reall noise when it happened. Ended up just being axle slip out. If axle is out then ill bet there isnt any fluid in tranny. Just let me know your findings and ill try to help as you go with it. I work quite a bit with trannies so hopefully we can get it up and going.

I was thinking axle by the tranny slipped out. That will cause you to go in gear with the clutch pedal out and the car will not stall.
That noise could be from the clip ring attached to the end of the axle that probably feel into the tranny. If that isn't the case then just replace the tranny. If that don't work post more info and go from there.
