So Ive already installed the insert and put the casing and everything back on. The trans is not in the car, but when trying to put the trans in 5th gear, it does not go into gear. It goes into reverse and every other gear but not 5th. Could it just be because there is not any fluid in the trans?

One thing I did not understand was this:

I aligned all 3 shift rails like the picture but the two metal peices where it says "Line up here", how are those supposed to be alined? When I moved them they moved the shift rails.

Anybody have any comments? I have tomorrow off and want to install the transmission. I dont know what I am looking for if I remove the top cover. Does anyone know what the top two 36mm bolts are supposed to be torqued to? Thanks.

The bottom part is where the shifter linkages actually engage the shift fork rails.

The top notches are for the detent balls so you don't get into two gears at once which is bad by the way.

If you left a pin out of one of your forks when you pulled it or something of that nature it could cause the shift rod to turn which will prevent a shift.

Almost impossible to tell without pulling it apart and looking.

That may be your only solution.

Good Luck

Yah what I was thinking. I didnt touch anything or remove anything except for 5th gear/synchro and the differential. So I shall pull everything and see whats going on. Thanks guys.

I know the grooves in the shift forks are supposed to be aligned. But down at the bottums of the shift forks where the selector chooses the gear, how are those supposed to be aligned?
