I have a 1992 talon tsi fwd turbo. I plan on lowering it for that slammed look. but i dont know which route to go and i dont wanna miss use my money. Since i only make about 400 dollars every 2 weeks. (im still in school) . I dont wannt the cheapest stuff but not the most expensive. Its going to be my DD for right know since i own a honda and its my dragger and i havent finished my project. (this is my first dsm if your wondering) .

Also i dont want it to be real bumpy i want more of a cadillac smooth ride, but i know i wont get the best cause im not putting a lot of money.

any ideas would highly be appreciated....

Its a 1g Talon 1992 . FWD turbo again.

i have always been a fan of tein, they dont make it for everyone but they are top of the line and if you are wanting a luxury ride they have suspension systems for them....BY ALL MEANS DO NOT CUT YOUR SPRINGS....i skimmed through and didnt really read everyone but i wanted to emphasise on that....you will hate yourself if you do....thats all....let us know what road you go down.

Dont do that. The gr-2's are a stock replacement strut. They wont hold up to a drop like that and your money will be wasted

Agreed. I have the GR-2s on my car but I only have the Eibach 1.3" drop front and rear. I can tell that any more of a drop than this wouldn't be a good thing. If you want that big of a drop you want the AGX's no questions asked.

How many cadillacs have you ridden in that are slammed ? They don't even ride like cadlacs. My dads Cts rides nice, but if i lowered it it would change the feel. If I were wanting to lower my car as low as possible, but still be able to find something that makes me happy I'd just get coilovers so that way i can play around with it til I'm happy on the look and feel. Tein coilover kit is amazing my friend has it on his sti and i love it. He also has the edfc and a nice t67 turbo kit. (lucky bastard) Anyway if you don't want to spend that much money check out the megan racing coilover kit its not the most expensive, but I've heard good things about it.

My gr2's feel like they are blowing out in the back already from the 1.3 drop like yours. I don't think agx's can handle the 2" drop that well either I have heard good things about koni though.

I dont want a LOWRIDER LOOK but i will buy aftermarket struts. and springs. i just wanna LOWER THE CAR . also if i lower it like 1.25-2.5 " . whats the best set up to go w/ ?? also what kinda rims should i get. i want all black rims. whats the sizes for my car??

sorry i came from a honda and toyota cars..
Coming from the Honda world you're used to being able to lower your car as much as you want. With DSMs it doesn't matter how "good" the parts are, the lower you go the worse the ride quality will be. DSMs just aren't designed to be lowered more than about 1-1.5". Any more than that and you'll have terrible ride quality and you'll wear out your shocks extremely fast, not to mention the car will not handle very well.

These cars simply don't do well slammed - you'll be throwing your money away no matter what you buy trying to lower it 2" or more. Prokits are about the only "lowering spring" I'd suggest outside of going with a Ground Control/Koni setup or a full coilover kit from JIC or Hotbits.

Quoted for truth!

Thanks for contributing Chris, someone needed to just lay it out like that. A few of us stumbled about hinting at it but you hit the nail on the head.

are you going to be running rims?? if so, get lightweight 18's and 225/40/18 with the pro-kit and it fills up the wheel gap nice - you could look at some of the h&r's, I think they have a 1.5, but they will cost alot more than the pro-kit and the pro-kit handles really well. you'll be surprised

I'll ###### be running 17's rims but dont know if they will look right. I want all black rims you know were i can get some cheap but good black/black rims 17s or 18s. ??

Thanks for all the help ! I'll stick w/ AGX's and the Eibach Prokits. And i'll post pics once i get rims and the full set up on there (when its lowered). Hey also anyone know if maaco does a good job ??for painting.?

if you do the prep work (sanding, taping, etc, and find the best sprayer) they can do a good job from what i've seen, and their more upscale paint jobs sometimes have warranties. do a search, there are quite a few threads on macco

BACK FROM THE DEAD!

is it possible to drop a 1G like a honda? i mean LOW!

first i was thinking that it would be impossible because or the rear diff and driveshaft but then i thought that EVO's and scoob's do it why not a 1g.??

i don't really care about ride quality as it will be a trailer queen show car.

i talking about being maybe .75" off the ground to the chassis?
do you think just regular coil's will drop that far?

How are you even going to get it on the trailer with a setup like that?
You might want some sort of air bag setup if all you want to do is slam it.

Correct me if Im wrong but I thought 2in was the "norm" drop around here? I know people that dropped their 1g 2in with no problems and Im not really sure how handling would get worse....

when you touch any part of your suspension even the slightest thing can throw off EVERYTHING and even cause you to need a 4 wheel alignment. Suspension work is actually kinda tricky to get it done the correct way.

I knew a guy that had a 2g n/t that was absolutely slammed on ebay springs. I dunno what the name of them were though for the life of me. I'd say go bagged if you want that stance that's so popular now. I'm not gonna lie, I really do love that look. But I could never ride around like that. It's just nuts.

Reviving this again. Just cause my friend has a funny signature from our local site.
He's got a '97 AWD Talon

If you want it to be slammed and ride good for cheap its not going to happen. No matter what its going to be around $400 bucks for shocks and springs without going the cheapest route. I would buy at the most 2" springs and some struts, Ride will be bumpy and it wont be that low but itll be practical. A slammed daily driver sucks, and shouldnt be done to a car like a TSI that is suppose to be driven fast. Just my two sense, I have a 1st altima that is my daily driver lowered 2" on good struts and springs, and it is a pain in the dick. I dont know for sure, but Id put my money on it that the altima has more travel than a DSM.

Yes the Altima has more travel than any DSM. What I would suggest is an Eibach street spring kit if you absolutely have to lower it, or if you wanna go the performance method or just wanna make your car more badass than it is. Go find yourself some Ksport Coilovers, they're cheap but decent, I bought some for $750.00 brand new. Otherwise your best bet for cheap is eBay, buy from Top Rated Sellers, or check the Classifieds on DSM forums.

Go to tirerack.com, you can buy rims and tires based on your vehicle and for decent prices.
