Sarnia,
hey guys, whenever I am running low on gas, and my fuel gauge says that I'm right at empty, I don't get a low fuel light... What could be the problem? Do 2g eclipse's have that light? that might be kinda dumb, but never saw it on mine... thanks...

Yeah the 2Gs have gas lights. My gas light comes on when the needle actually sits on the E. I usually see when I have gone about 225miles and then my light will start turning on and off and finally stays on around 260miles. You have a 16.9gal tank so you "should" (depanding on how hard you drive) be able to drive ~371miles before running outta gas...If you can drive 310miles on one tank then your gas light is prolly broke. :thumbdown

371 MILES! Wow, my automatic 97 GSX has horrible efficiency. I can get about 280 miles on the highway and around 200 stop and go before I get the light.

Well One, your an automatic=worse mpg than a manual. And two, when you gas light is on that doesn't mean your out of gas it just means you should prolly fill up soon, but technically you would still have like 4gallons left in reserve.

haha the gas gauges in our cars are beyond worthless... my car will go what appears to be a quater of a tank BELOW the E before I run out... the light will flicker on and off... there was a fix for it floating around somewhere maybe vfaq but really not worth the trouble... besides u can screw with ur pasanger "wasnt ur fuel light on an hour ago" "sure was, ur a clever one" and then continue driving :)

then 5 min later after car dies... uhhh... can you uhhh... aw fu(k! Lets get the thumbs out... :(

I have a FWD turbo AT DSM and I've gotten well over 370 miles on the highway.

In the city I usually need to fill up around 315 or so.

I usually wait for the fuel light to come on and stay on... even then, I've never put more than apx 15 gallons in my tank.

Haven't you guys heard its bad to go below half a tank of gas? The impurities settle at the bottom of the tank and the more you continue to let it go that low the more those impurities will continue to flow through your system. A fuel filter can only catch so much fellas.

After reading some of your posts, I thought my gas mileage was pretty bad getting 180-200 miles per half tank. Now I feel priviledged learning some of you only get that for the whole tank:D

Since I don't trust my car worth a darn I rarely drive on the highways, in stop and go conditions I get about 220, and thats with about 4 gallons remaining.

i had never heard that about driving your car till its on "E".... I will have to change my fill-up habbits.

No, we'd missed out on that wagonload of codswallop. For starters, your FUEL PICKUP had better be at the bottom of the tank. Second, unless you're filling up at Deadhorse, Alaska, and have lost your piece of denim to run the gas through, where do you fantasize these impurities are coming from? The pumps at the distribution point where the tankers are filled have filters, the tankers have filters, the pumps at the station have filters, and your gas neck is sealed by an O ring. And then, if you were keeping those impurities from the "bottom of the tank" from being picked up the first time, how many tanks until this cumulative, non-flowing sludge becomes a solid block? Is this like my intestines having 40 pounds of putrefied, undigested food and secretions in them?

Good god.

Of course the gas pickup is at the bottom otherwise we would only get 1 mile out of our tanks if it wasn't, LOL :D I guess let me rephrase my sentence. The impurities are floating at the top and once you let your gas go down to E is when they settle at the bottom. Thus, they start getting sucked up then.

As for what you said Defiant... Maybe so, but it's still a valid argument. Nothing man-made is perfect. Are you trying to tell me that just because there is a filter that makes everything ok? You must have a lot of faith in the Gasoline corporations to believe that they won't try to sell you something as quickly as possible and ship it out with the least amount of man hours. I'm not saying there is 40 lbs of sediment sitting in your gas tank, but I guarantee you that there is build up to a certain extent.

do 1Gs have lights? I have driven on E for a while, waiting for the light(was checking MPG) and it never came on, got scared and just filled it up anyway.

1g's should have lights, although I learned last week that mine didn't work.:(

Filling up before the gas gets to the bottom of the tank is a ### idea.

What kind of "imputities" are you talking about?

There is a filter on the fuel pump. Who freaking cares.

My 1g has a light, it ussally comes on whenever the car is sloped forwared sitting on a hill or something, and its inbetween the quarter of a tank and E. I've had the guage itself well below E though, and the damn light never stayed solid, then I chickened out and put gas in it.

1st gens definitely have low fuel indicators, I know because mine is on at least twice a week. It will "wink" on and off as I go up and down hills then eventually stay solid amber when Im running on fumes. I cant think of the last time I saw my needle on "F" since I only put in about 5-10 dollars at a time!

My 1g's light actually first comes on when i hit a 1/4 tank.

then it will wink on and off for a while.

I always let it go to the max. Last night i drove all the way to work and halfway home with the light on. (40 miles?)

Im always tempted to see what the max limit is. Back when i was 17 my gas line froze though cos i had NO fuel in there. no fun, and dont want that happening again.

No. There just aren't any. Gas is clean here.

No it isn't. It's spurious. It's ersatz. It's sublime. Bogus. Honkers. Artificial, fake, false, fictitious, forged, fraudulent, phony, pretended, pseudo, a sham, and simulated.
Nothing man-made is perfect.
Nor does it have to be. What isn't filtered -down to the factory filter's 4 microns- will be passed by the injectors and incinerated in the chambers just fine.
Are you trying to tell me that just because there is a filter that makes everything ok?
No, I'm trying to tell you that somewhere you've picked up a fairy tale and are believing it. And I pointed out four filters in the process.
You must have a lot of faith in the Gasoline corporations to believe that they won't try to sell you something as quickly as possible and ship it out with the least amount of man hours.
I've worked for too many -Standard Oil, Exxon, Union 76, British Petroleum, Lyon Oil and Tosco- to have many "beliefs" about them.
I'm not saying there is 40 lbs of sediment sitting in your gas tank, but I guarantee you that there is build up to a certain extent.
Show me some. In over 30 years of wrenching, I've found ONE gas tank with "sediment" in it, and that was in a flood car.

But I'm always keen to learn.

my 2g gas light comes on at the last 1/4 of tank, then it starts to cut out, i think the ppl's that had it before me had something done to the sending unit or something, cuz it should't be coming on that early and trying to shut off, i think i read some where there was a recall about the fuel pump but, sence it was done, it could't be done again, so im hoping when i grab my Walbro 190/lph pump, I'll see what its problem is, and with that problem, im getting 270 HW and 205esh in town,, I think:confused:
