Hi guys not sure how active everyone is here but I'm having a big issue in my new 2g. Every time I fully lock the steering wheel it’s a very loud squeal and it’s very embarrassing to have driving around. It also happens sometimes when I take the car over 6k rpm, it also randomly happens driving around it will just make a noise for a second and then stop.

All my power steering fluids were topped off and full and there isn’t any leaks that I can see from it. Does anyone have a fix or idea on what it could be? Any help is welcome and appreciated thank you 😊

The belt is most likely loose and/or is old and needs replaced. Check the belt for deflection. I think the spec is a 1/4”.

which belt would it be? Assuming the serpentine correct? if so all the specs im seeing is 1/8”

All I am finding is serpentine belts for this car, I have the GS model does that make a difference?

All the parts websites don’t even give me the option for a power steering belt when I go to look, yet the diagrams show there is one.
Sorry if I seem clueless this is my first Eclipse and only say three of owning it LOL.

Originally you didn't say it was a GS (you just said 2g so we all assumed it was a 4g63 engine). So being a GS it has the 420A engine. The belt depends on whether you have AC or not as everything is totally different with different belts going on different pulleys. For non-AC, deflection check is 0.43-0.55" at 22 lbs between the 2 pulleys. For AC, deflection check is 0.39-0.43" at 22 lbs (between crank and PS pulleys).

Sorry for the mix up but yes it’s the GS with AC model. So the belt I'm needing is what now exactly? Thank you for all the info it’s very helpful

RockAuto has the belt you need. And I'm sure at least one of your local auto parts stores has one too.

Before replacing the belt I would check to make sure that the tensioner bolt is not damaged. Over tightening will damage the threads very easily and I've seen it multiple times with the 420a. It's a left hand threaded bolt, meaning the threads are in the reverse direction compared to a typical bolt. I keep a few extras on hand since it's such a typical issue. I personally removed this whole tensioner assembly and am just using the PS pump as my tensioner. Which you can do too, but requires a shorter belt. I can't say exactly which length you would need because I'm using an underdrive pulley and no A/C, but it is simple enough to measure.
