95 talon esi auto transmission: Okay so I just came home, put in my new battery, went to hit the ignition and everything just instantly shut off, it didnt even crank once before everything shut off:cry:, now I have no interior lights, headlights or anything!... checked all the fuses and not one is blown? im lost, my starter is brand new, coil, plugs, wires, cps, and today i put new connectors on my pos. and neg. connectors on the wires. so I am stumped, could it be my asd relay? because everything else is brand new. please let me know if this has happened to you and how you fixed the issue. Thanks guys

Your connection to the battery/ground is too weak and cannot supply the current needed to kick the starter, and consequently kills the circuit.

You need to remove any and all corrosion from your terminals and make damn sure the negative is in good shape/grounded properly.

Should be it.

there is no corrosion what so ever to the terminals, or connectors. everything is new, and i checked the neg wire for any breaks and it came up clean and i cleaned the spot where it grounds to the engine bay.

LOL well i will give it a shot, i will feel rather stupid if that is all it is though haha...thanks gentleman, ill let you all know what happens

Just because the insulation on a wire looks good doesn't mean it has a nice low resistance value. Resistance is the issue here.

No, you should find the problem before you replace anything.

I'm assuming you replaced the battery because it wasn't charging/holding a charge. All indicative of what's mentioned above.

just tightened down the neg and pos. connectors as tight as they would go, gained power back to everything but as soon as i turned the key the same thing happened. And the reason i replaced the battery was because the battery as 4 years old from the pervious owner and it was a side terminal battery and with my cai it no longer has clearance for it so i bought a top terminal battery to make life alot easier, plus i figured it needed a new battery anyway LOL. and i checked all the fuses including the ones under the dash and everything is fine, none blew.

Start checking grounds. This is definitely a continuity issue.

I would replace the negative and get a post and terminal cleaner. Scrape the crap out of em till they shine, and should be golden.

Make sure all grounds are grounded to surfaces without paint/rust.

By chance, are the battery terminal connectors the kind that are covered in black in red paint? If so maybe you could try sanding off the paint where the connectors come in contact with the terminal. Sounds like an issue with the ground going on.

yeah they are painted... cant believe i never thought of that LOL...i will sand them on the inside to make sure they are clean of all pain/anything, and should i lightly sand the battery terminals just to get a fresh clean surface even tho the battery is brand new? and i do plan on going through everything tomorrow in the daylight and checking the ground tot he battery again and the starter, any other tips while im doing all of that?

If you have any really fine sandpaper it probably wouldnt hurt to sand the actual terminal itself. Ive done it in the past when i was having this issue. Hopefully that solves it for you :thumb:

thanks for everyones help, I will give an update tomorrow when i get everything checked/sanded/cleaned and hopefully fixed LOL.

well I got inpatient and just knocked everything out tonight and she started right up! thanks everyone for your tips and info, only downside is....now i know i need a new trans LOL

Fantastic, glad you got it figured out because im having the exact same problem when I try to start my buddies evo that im taking care of. Ive bought a battery relocation kit and am hoping that replacing everything, terminals, wires etc that it will be cured of this issue.

Does exactly the same though, turn the key and everything goes off, very strange

yeah bro just check all the ground points with your neg battery cable, clean everything, the surface it grounds to, the wires them selves and all that... I also took very fine sand paper and sanded the battery terminals themselves and the inside of the connectors and re connected it all as tight as it humanly can go and she fired right up on the first shot...good luck man, i was actually thinking of doing a relocation for my battery down the road LOL
