Well, I guess the oil cooler housing on my car got loose enough that when I revved it up racing that It blew my oil out. When I let out after a first and second gear run, the engine died when the rpms came down. After that the engine didnt seem to fully lock up but is dragging real bad and didnt restart. I have a new crank and bearings on the way. There was never any knocking. Engine just died when I let off. Do you guys think I will be fine just putting new crank and bearings in?

Thanks
Ben

Well the worst that could have happened was you lost tons of oil pressure. Ruined some bearings. So yeh new crank and bearings should do the trick. Most likely replace the oil pump while your at it.

I had the same problem happen to me and I lost a complete engine. If I were you, I would do a complete tear down of everything just to inspect the damage. What I can recall in my previous build that was damaged was, pistons, cams, head, oil pump, crank, just about everything that used oil or sits on a film of it. Maybe you might be able to salvage the head by getting the cam journals polished.

Pull uour valve cover an remove the cams. You need to inspect the seats. When I lost my oil due to blowing an oil line, my cams spun the caps and seats. Had to replace the head

Damn. You guys got me worried. I dont have room to do the job at home. I will have access to a shop, but car needs to be in and out fairly quickly. That is the reason I just ordered a whole new crank and bearings. From what I can tell the oil didnt start blowing out till during my race. I only ran through second gear and let out and it died when I came to a stop. My passenger said he saw the oil light come on as we were slowing down so I dont think it went without oil long. I will check things out, but I am really hoping that I didnt tear up more than crank and bearings.

Just remember that your head will be the first to starve of oil. Your bearings good be good (mine are). When my motor stopped, one cam seized to the seats and snapped the cam gear off. You will want a full inspection

I actually live in Decatur, IL right now. I was in indy for the week at the time I posted. Used to live over there too. I should be pulling engine out today. I will be checking everything out. Guess I will see.

Well I pulled the engine and got it apart. Found that the reason for the failure is that I believe an oil pressure switch fell out of my oil filter housing. I know something came out of there cause there is an empty hole now.

When I pulled pan all rods except one had side to side play. I loosened that one up and the engine spun freely afterwards. I have the new crank and bearings in it now. Will probably finish assembling engine and doing timing tomorrow.
