Yesterday my car started sounding very sickish coming from the front left wheel. I pulled the wheel and noiced odd wearpatterns on my rotor and that after I pulled the caliper. The rotor was very loose. Is there a way to remount this? Or are these free floating? There was minimal play in the axle and all bushings looked new.

How was the rotor loose? I don't think you could make that comment with the wheel off the car. Perhaps with a better explanation we can understand what you mean.

The rotor is held into place by the wheel and lugs and is not free-floating but rather a complete solid piece.

Well when I remove the wheel the rotor is loose, I attach the wheel and the rotor tightens but the rotor and wheel then have a lot of play. Is this just a wheel bearing?

Most likely a wheel bearing. Put the wheel back on and tighten it down, then grab the bottom and top of it and wiggle it up and down. If there's any play, then it is most like your wheel bearing.

Yeah about 1cm of play to all sides, will this cause the rotor to brake unevenly? Its rubbing against the pads at all times when driving. thanks for the help by the way!

Just the bearing. Doing wheel bearings on 1gs are a little easier than doing them on 2gs.

Nice, is this something I can do myself with a rental press from auto zone or will I need a hydraulic press at a shop? Im not looking to blow 300 dollars on this.

Is there a write up somewhere for this?

When you press out the center hub from the bearing, the part that goes thu the bearing should be smooth.

If there is a step to it, replace the center hub also

and be sure to replace both inner and outer wheel seals
I think i had about 150 in new wheel bearings and seals on both sides of the car
and shop time in taking the hub assembly in and letting them do the work!!!!
I know when to let them do some things for me they only charged like 35 bucks for the work

150 ain't bad I got all parts ordered probably fix it this week car is parked til then. I guess a 1200 mile road trip has its lasting effects.

Guess you can mark this as resolved!
