Looking to buy a DSM tonight but need help

Looking to buy a 97 Eclipse GSX. Body has 106k and the engine is rebuilt. It's forged internals. The short block was taken out of a previous DSM and installed into this Eclipse. I have no idea how many miles the short block has on it. The guy also installed a brand new Garret GT35 that he said he paid $1600 for. The car needs link and tuned. No rust on body except for on the hatch. Front bumper needs replaced. He has fixed some miscellaneous things with suspension and replaced joints and bearings with new parts and also put a new axle in. Car has the factory soft leather option. Interior is in good condition.

He wants $7,000 for it. I felt $6,000 was a fair price. I was hoping I could get some feed back from you guys and what you think something like this is worth. I plan on Autocrossing it. Also he said he has a good 6 bolt stock short block he could swap with the built short block for less money.

Any pictures? Does he have receipts of the parts that were purchasing as far as the forged internals?

make sure you see receipts and/ or paperwork of all internals and work done to verify it truly has it. make sure turbo and other parts are genuine and not ebay knock off. if its all legit then 6000 would be fair

He doesn't have the receipts for the internals. He does have pics of him installing the short block and of the inside of the block. Like so you can see the pistons. Short block was bought already configured he just put the head on. I attached a pic of the car and of what he has for the closest thing to a receipt for the turbo.

Yes I have and with a good clean it would be very nice. I told him $6000 and he said he would do that but he was going to take the gt35 off and put an Evo 16g on for the $6000.

That's your call. I have a 16G setup with 288awp and 271ft-lbs at 18psi.

Honestly that might be doing you a favor. A gt3582r on a stock tune and injectors is like holding a grenade by the pin. Sure, it might not blow up, but chances are it will.

I would probably try to go even lower with an evo 16g. its nice to have internals and a clean gsx but youll have a lot of upgrading to do to make good power. ill probably be selling link w/ ecu and other performance parts from my 97 gst pretty cheap just in case.

You can't run those 750cc injectors without a way to tune. So it will run like a 3-legged dog until you swap in stock injectors, or get something to tune with.

that's pretty good then. I wouldn't drive it too hard or too much without a good tune though cause the ecu is probably so confused with all those upgrades, if it even runs at all

Check the title or car fax. If that car has been hit in anyway. Drop that price to 4000$.

How can you throw money on everything except the tuning solution? If this guy has no proof of anything then you are better off assuming it doesn't have anything he says it does. My absolute best offer would be $3,000.

Well first I just want to say this.. $6k for a car... then it better freaking startup and run. How is the car able to start up without any fuel controller on it? You say it has 750cc injectors, something has to be adjusting fuel compensation if the car does start up.

Second, I would double check that it is a real gsx and not a conversion (look at the title).

Third, a 16g would probably be way better for autocross.

Does it have a fmic? What else is upgraded on the car? Cams? Head work? Upgraded valves/springs?

These cars are noticeably more expensive in the midwest than they are in the south.
