looking into getting a dsm for a while now

Ok i have been looking into getting a dsm for a while now and was wanting to get a couple ?'s answered before i get seroius.
First i am a bigger guy being 6'5" 300lbs I was wanting to know if i would have any problems with driving a 1st gen?
If i was to get a 1st gen dsm which models have rear disc brake?
Which models have the DOHC motor?
Which motors should i stay away from?
I would like a awd could you convert one?
I also would like to know if you can convert the regular headlights from 93-94 back to the flip ups of 90-92?

I never drove a 1G so I dont know about the whole size issue but the Eclipse GSX is a AWD, DOHC turbo, it has all disc breaks, then theres a AWD Talon TSI basically same as the Eclipse GSX
 
buy a 90 or 91 with an emprom ecu...i personally think the lasers look the worst, but get what you can. My friend is 6-3 250 drives a 90 with out a problem, I think the side bolsters are adjustable too (someone check on that)
 
You want AWD, then get AWD like said before. As for a 1g, im 5' 11" and i have plently of room in all areas(with the stock seat).
Just some quick notes. 1991 and older have 3bolt axles and are weaker but they also have the pop up headlights.
If you want to check the condition of the turbo, bring a long extension and 10mm socket with your ratchet and loosen the clamp at the inlet of the turbo, bring a wrench or chanel lock with you aswell to disconnect the blow off vavle return hose(this will help removing the hose.
I believe there are other bolts holding the air cleaner assembly down around the air filter, theyre either 10mm or 12mm.

Anyway once you manage to get the POS off, stick your finger in the turbine inlet and wiggle it side-to-side, there can be some, but if its excessive, like .006"+ it could be bad and hitting the housing tearing up the blades. Also wiggle the turbine In-and-Out, this is also very bad, very little shaft play should be here if any(like .001")

Just look for other stuff like what you'll have to repair on the car (Brakes, tires, Battery, Battery cables,etc.)

If the owner leaves the windows down overnight condensation will accumulate in the cabin. This is bad because there is a good chance you'll have leaking Caps in your ECU.

Get a compression tester, battery charger, and spark plug socket and check the compression.



Man i could go forever but just inspect it throughly before you buy it. Or take it to a mechanic
 
I am 6'2 and i fit in my 90 talon easily i have like 4 or 5 inches of clearance before my head hits the roof. Its funny because I stand above the car like 2 feet but when I sit in the car i have so much room to the top.
 
I realy dont want a boosted car but i want to build a big HP NA talon,eclipse,laser, whichever one.
Are the Laser's the only ones with the flip up headlights?

Good luck, AWD=no boost. And if your going for high hp NA why the 4g63? You could probably spend less on a honda B-series motor and make great numbers.
 
If i get a dsm I want to have an extra motor so i can put in some new rods, crank, cams, pistons, valves +springs. And then add a t3/t4 turbo to it, then maybe some 75 shot nitroius with a full throttle switch
 
I wasnt considering that all AWD have a stock turbo. And no honda/acura is AWD

Actually in 1986 the civic wagon came with 4WD and in 1987 made it so it was real-time 4WD. There have been modified AWD civics from this platform. Plus im sure someone has taken it out of a CRV since that motor has been proven to hold its own as well.

I suggest searching before you give out information, and before you ask questions. If you cannot find the answer to your specific question then ask.

if youre going to turbo it, might as well get a turbo dsm to begin with. and since you want awd, then a gsx or tsi awd is what youre looking for. or if you can find the rare laser awd, that may be cheaper. but its cheap cause its ugly. :barf:
 
Well, if you're stock on the n/a awd idea. Look for a galant gsx (90-92 i believe). This model had the DOHC 16valve n/a motor. Don't get a VR4, that one had a turbo.
