I've started my first project car, I am no mechanical genius but a very handy guy. I have researched a ton but don't feel like I have solid conclusions on what I should mod. So far I pulled the engine, had cylinders honed and forged pistons, rings and rods installed. They balaced the short block as wee. I put it all back together and it runs, but I'm still working some kinks out (rotten hoses, bad tie rod, little stuff). while putting it back together I did all the Stage 0 mods, as well as change the rack and pinion, new radiator, clutch, things like that and just clean everything up.
Now I want to know where Im going with this engine before I buy the wrong parts. I have a DD but I want this one to be my other DD so I dont want parts breaking and and I'm keeping things like my A/C and backseat. I'm an overkill type of guy so I would rather have more than I need as opposed to maxing out everything. Im looking for hp in the 400 range, but if I could still get good gas mileage, while being light on the pedal, that would be great, but not a must. Does ECMlink have multiple settings to auto tune the vehicle like race mode or economy mode?
This wont be a track car (at first anyway), I like racing around town for now so I want a set up for road racing I guess. Would like to keep lag down as much as possible but still get good psi 25-30 im hoping.
The turbo is probably going to be one of the last things I change but it seems like all the other mods need to fall in line with the turbo so I dont want to spend money on the wrong parts that wont fit with my turbo sizing so I need to figure out that first. I was thinking 20g because of the ease of installation, but have been getting mixed reviews. It seems like 16g big or evo gives boost sooner so if it can make the boost needed it seems more efficient or not? please help. also an guy in my area is selling a brand new turbonetics 62mm T-3 garrett $400. would that be a better choice or too big?
I will get all the supporting mods, 3" turbo back exhaust (I dont care about emissions just best flow). ~1000cc FIC injectors, New Exhaust mani (tubular looks and sounds better but I've read I should get a 2g mani, again need mani to go with correct turbo. Also have greddy RS BOV. opinions?
How long will my MAF work and do I need a 2g or a GM? when will i need DSM or ECMlink in this whole process.
Want a FMIC but again need to figure out everything else to know pipe sizing and what not.
When will I need a magnus Intake mani?
Cant afford to buy it all at once so would like to piece it together and drive it but it can sit in the garage waiting on parts cause i have another ride.
Help where you can please
