Currently working on a 1G 4G63 n/t, not mine but, working on it for a friend of mine.
He jumped the timing belt on it at low RPMs, let's say 800-1500RPMs. It died and he tried cranking it a few times.
I tore it down and by the time I got to the timing belt I knew we had some big problems. The balance shaft belt snapped in two places, I could tel the belt was OLD due to cracks and rot.:notgood: I'm assuming this caused the timing belt to jump. It was missing teeth for about five inches in one spot and had a couple other areas where a few teeth were partially chewed up. The timing belt looks pretty new.
I know that we have some bent valves and will need to rebuild the head. My BIG question is what damage will a snapped balance shaft belt do? Is there going to be problems on the bottom end?

Ok that's what I figured. I'm not too worried about the pistons, because of the low rpm situation. I have heard about a balance shaft removal kit... good or bad?
