Ok, So I did some research, but I still dont know the diff between longblocks and shortblocks, I am completely lost on that topic, especially when I am trying to find out a decent price for a new engine for my new car. .. I am going to get a 2g eclipse gsx.... and put a new engine in it.. like a slowboy.. what you you guys recomend???.. Ithink that with a new engine it would eliminate alot of problems, and then I could start modding and tuning right away after it is plugged in:thumb:

Longblock=entire engine, head, block, pistons, crank, rods, bearings, ect
Shortblock=Everything minus the head
As far as buying a longblock or shortblock, be prepared to spend some major $$ if its from SB
If I were in your shoes. Do A LOT more research, and at most, buy a used 6 bolt and start from there, that way if you #### up, you won't have wasted 3 or 4 grand on a brand new engine or what ever the going price is.
buy what ever way you do decide to go, I wish you the best of luck!

Sorry about the ALL CAPS. I pulled this of the net.

ALL ENGINES ARE THE SAME DIMENSIONS. SOME PEOPLE ASK IF A SHORT BLOCK IS SMALLER THAN A LONG BLOCK, THE ANSWER IS NO ! THEY ARE THE SAME SIZE, THE REASON THEY CALL IT A SHORT BLOCK IS THAT MANY OF THE PARTS ARE LEFT OFF SUCH AS HEADS, ROCKER ARMS, LIFTERS, OIL PAN, ETC. IN OTHER WORDS THEY HAVE BEEN SHORTED FROM A LONG BLOCK, HENCE THE NAME SHORT BLOCK.

SHORT BLOCKS HAVE THE FOLLOWING INCLUDED................
LOWER BLOCK, CRANKSHAFT, CONNECTING RODS, PISTONS, RINGS, MAIN BEARINGS, ROD BEARINGS, CAM BEARINGS, WARNING ONLY PURCHASE THIS UNIT IF YOU HAVE A QUALIFIED ENGINE SPECIALIST WHO CAN PROPERLY CLEAN, REWORK, AND ASSEMBLE TO A COMPLETE RUNNING ENGINE, IT WILL REQUIRE NUMEROUS NEW PARTS, AND LOTS OF TIME NOT RECOMMENDED FOR THE WEEKEND WARRIOR !!!

LONG BLOCK ENGINES HAVE THE FOLLOWING INCLUDED..................
BLOCK, CRANKSHAFT, PISTONS, RINGS, MAIN BEARINGS, ROD BEARINGS, CAM BEARINGS, CAMSHAFT, TIMING CHAIN, SPROCKETS, LIFTERS, PUSH RODS, ROCKER ARMS, CYLINDER HEADS, OIL PUMP, OIL SCREEN, AND GASKET SET. THIS WILL ALSO REQUIRE A SKILLED ENGINE SPECIALIST, AND HOURS OF TIME CLEANING THE FOLLOWING PARTS THAT YOU TAKE OFF YOUR OLD ENGINE TO REUSE ON YOUR NEW ENGINE, SUCH AS OIL PAN, TIMING COVER, VALVE COVERS, INTAKE MANIFOLD, CARBURETOR, WATER PUMP DISTRIBUTOR, ALL IGNITION COMPONENTS, IT WILL STILL REQUIRE MANY HOURS OF CLEANING AND ASSEMBLY.

you say, buy a used 6 bolt.. thats another thing Id otn understand.. the 6 bold/7 bolt stuff... I will be on a budget and it will not be my Daily driver until its done...could you suggest anytihng else, like say.. modding the engine that comes with the car.. and then getting it all tweaked properly, and then buying the engine..and set everything up agian?

A 6bolt engine is a bit stronger. They come in pre 1992 cars. Some 92 cars have 6bolts because that is the year DSM switched over. All cars after 1992 have 7bolts. The only problem that people are having with 7bolt engines is crank walk... bad!

Try to get a 6bolt if you are going with Big on HP... otherwise a 7bolt would be ok.

i dont believe you can get brand new 6 bolt engines...but i do know that you can get a 6 bolt engine and have it all fixed up to where its LIKE NEW you know..? i could be wrong tho..

Just as an FYI, you can purchase a brand new shorblock from Mitsubishi, and you can also buy a brand new head. However, they will not sell as a longblock that I am aware of.

Get ready to spend some money if you do this!

well, if the engine in the car is running fine. don't do anything to it. if its not broken, don't fix it. Learn on what you have before spending top dollar on a fresh engine.

yea whats the deal, If nothing is wrong with your engine now, why would you buy a new one?

But to answer your question...search through KarKing.com often. They always have some refurbished engines.

I was quoted at $4000 just for the short block (labor not included) from the dealer the day that they diagnosed my car with crankwalk. But the service manager assured me "the place we get them from does something to make them stronger so they don't crankwalk again." Uh huh... sure.

I'd prefer to buy a complete block from SBR (stroker preferably) for about the same amount and just put it in myself. So... I'll probably be doing that in about a year or so.
