I have a 1992 Laser AWD Turbo and yesterday I got home from work and smoke started pouring out the exhaust with water too. The oil still looks the right color and seemed right amount when I checked it, this morning I checked it again and it was way overfilled. I'm not sure if coolant or water got into it but it didn't seem normal. The car runs like hell now and I already have to replace the valve cover, header gasket due to broken bolt in the head, struts and cv joint. I started to hear a ticking noise and a friend of mine said it was a lifter knock, which would be ok to drive lightly on until I get paid. The car also Surges up and down until warmed up and then sometimes it goes away.

My question is I was wondering if I can use STEEL SEAL gasket sealer on my turboed 4g63? Would it really work or not?

I don't have the money for a shop to fix my car.

I tried that stuff many years ago, didnt work, so i had to pull the head to do a hg job, a great learning experience i was broke at the time so i did it myself. If it worked im sure i would have used it on my many blown hg jobs over the years.

It's not a very hard job, take a day off and do it yourself (that way you know its done right).

For an experienced mechanic 4-10 hours. For someone with little mechanical experience it could turn into a week to month long nightmare that turns into a car being parted out.

Did my first when i got out of college took a couple of days all together i had to replace all timing parts so a week, but i took my time. No rush do it right the first time.

Yeah I wasn't sure if that stuff would work, it seemed like a joke, but in the position I'm in, I figured I would ask some questions. It didn't seem possible for that stuff to do what they say it does. I suppose I'm going to have to replace the head gasket myself, I can't afford a mechanic. I do know a bit about cars since I've been projecting my Nissan 240sx together. I just want my 4g63 running great.
Thank you all

Mechanic in a can very seldom works, I have tried seval brands on diffrent engines over the years.

Do it right the first time, The info you need to do a HG replacement is here on Tuners.
Let the VFAQ section become your new best friend.
Look for the time belt guide, there and replace all the recomended parts.

Once the head is off......

Then

And with how much water you are going thu, you may want a machine shop to....

Since there is a good chance the head is warped, it will need milled

the surface should look about like that for a composite or MLS head gasket.

But whatever you do do not let a machine shop belt surface your head....
