hello everyone, recently my 2g gsx started blowing smoke on start up. it will blow smoke for a couple minutes and eventually stop, it is definitly blueish oil smoke. since it wasnt effecting the way it drove i didnt think much of it, just kept an eye on it. so the other morning i was leaving for work, there seemed like allot of smoke this time, but it was really cold out so i thought some of it was just steam. about halfway to work the heater went cold and the car started overheating, i shut it down on the side of the road and had it towed home. today i refilled the coolant and checked the oil (considerably lower) started the car up and found it was leaking allot of oil from behind the turbo, around where the o2 housing bolts to the turbo and from o2 to the downpipe. also when the car is revved oil spits out of the tailpipe. there is no oil on compressor side of the turbo. everything else in the area is clear of oil but there is a considerable amount of oil leaking from the flanges. only thing i can think of is the head gasket is leaking oil into the exhaust, but why would it stop smoking out the back when it was doing this? i'm confused WTF

car is very lightly modded intake, exhaust, big 16g, running 12 psi.
thanks for any help

Sounds more like the turbo took a shit on you as far as the oil goes. You may have additional issues but you need more info to get there. Do the usual... compression test, leak down test (if you can), check for water/coolant in the oil, combustion leak test. The results of those tests will give you a wealth of information to diagnose with.

the next couple days i will do compression/ leakdown test. in the mean time how would i tell if it is the turbo? check for play in the shaft? there is no water in the oil, not sure how to do the combustion leak test, but ill give that a search, thanks

Sounds like turbine shaft seal. Not a real big deal. Just rebuild your turbo using te how too on this site.

New turbo or rebuild with new seals. Had a stock turbo poop and sooo much smoke LOL. Cops pulled me over like wtf man o.o

Might be a bad 16g. You should look in rebuilding your 16g yourself, save more money that way. There are a lot of information out there on which kit to buy and there is a YouTube video on how to rebuild a 16g turbo. Most people go with the ecrater kit --> Turbo Rebuild Repair Kit Mitsubishi TD05 TD06H TD06SL2 14G, 16G, 18G, 20G Turbos .. And the YouTube how to video--> [ame=http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=PSZtP949JHU]How to Rebuild a Turbo - Part 1 of 2 - YouTube[/ame]

alright,
thanks for all the responses guys! sorry it took so long but i am super busy and don't have allot of time to work/post. so those of you that said turbo seals you get a gold star! not only were the seals blown out, but the compressor was chewing itself up. So i got a new 16g with all the fixins to install it. during this whole process i learned why my last turbo blew out so soon, i never realized it mattered where you feed the turbo from! since the t25 was fed from the oil filter housing and the kit i got for my (now dead) had lines that were made for the same feed location so i didn't think anything of it. but turns out those journal bearings dont much like the high pressure from the OFH and therefor blew out my seals..SO! i already had a oil line that worked for the head, just needed a new banjo bolt and plug, which turned into a whole other fiasco. after searching around a few hours i figured out the sizes (10mmx1.25x20mm and 3/8 bpt respectively). both of which cant be found locally usually bedsides the stealership. I called my local Mitsubishi and had to practically force the parts manager to look up the bolt for me. i tried finding the part# online but that was a failure. so $27 later i got my banjo bolt. the part number for it is MF650102. now hopefully next time someone is searching for the same thing they can find this post! anyways the car is running great again! no smoke at all, just really loud since i got the Megan downpipe (deleted cat), have to fix that. anyways thought i would update and thank everyone for the assistance! :thumb:
