I have a race short block being finished up at a local engine shop, and i am now really scared about it due to my other problems posted in this forum. i just wanted to ask a quick question.

is it absolutely needed to have the head bolted down when line honing is performed? i aske because it wasnt done. I took the guy the head, and a brand new box of arp head studs, along with arp mains. he had me take a look at it the other day when i was dropping off the other p.o.s. that he did for me that crapped out in less than 20 miles... anyway.. he said the line honing was done, and all that was left was clearancing the block for the rods.... i noticed the head was still sitting where i left it, and the arp head studs were still sealed in the box.... now im kinda pissed!

Doesnt sound good dude eather. Ask him WTF? When you ask someone to do something and you are paying them good money I expect it done. Find a new machinest dude you will be bettter off in the long run. I dont know how they get away with this crap.

So did you ask they guy why he didnt install the ARP's?

I had a similar issue with a machine shop here that just built my engine. I brought ARP mains in for the to install while building my block. When I went back a couple days later to drop off the head I took a look at the block and saw stock mains installed. I told the dude I brought ARP's in and he needed to install them. He told me that nobody told him I did. I searched their shop and found my own main studs I had brought in stashed on a shelf and showed them to his face.

Went back the next day to drop off some valve springs and the ARP mains were installed. You gotta keep an eye on some of these guys.

Tell him to do it over again and this time he needs to use the ARP's. Don't ask him anything, TELL him.
