so i got word from the shop that everything is set to go for my block, crank, rods, and pistons. in the head i need 4 valves and from there i have a couple other things i need to do. one being i need a whole new set of lifters for my head. and the rust on the cams may just be surface but its possible that i will need a new set of cams. if there is any way to find out a good set of lifters i can get and also if i possibly need cams then if there is a combo of the cams and lifters. i am looking to build power into my car so i want something that will give me more power for my car. and if there is something that works better than the stock cams then i might look into it.:thumb:

For the lifters, just make sure you get a set of 3rd generation design ones. Generally speaking, they show up cheap on eBay, and they're all the same product / design.

Get ones with the 3mm oil orifice. There's a guy on eBay named "engnbldr" I think, who generally has them for well under $100 shipped for a set.

As for cams, that's a lot more difficult topic. It's going to depend on your choice of turbo, driving style, whether you're manual or automatic, your power goals, your tuning ability, whether or not you're going to buy adjustable cam gears or not, and various other things.

If you want a "safe" bet that's better than stock, go with the tried and true HKS 264/264 combo. They've been around forever, known to be a good deal better than stock, and usually work relatively well installed "straight up" without being degreed and dialed in with a set of adjustable cam gears. They aren't cheap, though. You should be able to find a good set of cams used in the classified forums here if you're on a budget. They show up all the time.

want a set of good cams for almost half the price of the HKS look into Brian Crower Cams. I have some BC 272 equivelent and a friend recently installed his and he is more than happy with it. idles not to bad also

well basically this car will be my daily driver and i will not be upgrading the stock turbo. the car is a manual car. and i want it to be able to keep up with my friends slightly modded wrx or smoke him either way haha:cool: but i might need cams not a deffinite thing yet though. i will be polishing them tonight and will find out. but if they need replacing then i want something that will ultimatly give me better performance than the stock ones.

Brian Crowers are great and their price is even better

Get the Brian Crowers and spend the money you saved to buy your lifters.

are lifters just universal....no like prefered ones other than the 3rd gen?

well the cam was checked and there is jno need for new cams but i am still wondering about the lifters. I have heard from a couple guys in town that i should get 2nd gen lifters. what is the difference between the 2nd gen and the 3rd gen lifters?

If you won't be upgrading the stock turbo, don't worry about the cams. You'll be able to max out the 14b easily with the stock head/cams anyway.

If you're going to keep the 14b, a set of cams from a 93-94 4g63T with a manual trans would be a step up from the cams you have. On the 14b, I wouldn't even change the cams. Many many people have gone 12's and lower on the stock cams, that should be more then plenty to spank on a WRX.

As far as the lifters, go with the 3G ones. They have the 3mm oversize hole at the top and I've heard are great. Here is a site I found that sells the for $5 a piece. You will need 16, if I remember correctly. They are listed on the site as lash adjusters. If this is not the right part, someone please correct me as I found this link a while ago in a post on here I believe.

yea that does make sense. those cams do look pretty beefy:p . anyways so for on the engine itself i will have all new belts and water pump seal all the goodies. the block is getting bored 40 thousandths. and i am getting the balancer elimination kit. now with the engine out of my other car. what other things can i do to help increase my power. i will replace all hoses and a few other things. it already has a rebuilt tranny and new clutch.
