I was replacing my starter this weekend. I noticed a hose going to the firewall coming from the back of the engine above the starter. It looks like it has been hacked in two and put back together with a flow block in the middle. This car is new to me so I have a few questions.

Does anyone know what this is? Is this normal? If it’s not normal is there anything I should do about it?

Thanks in advanced!

I do notice it says heater hose on it. Is this heat for the cabin through the hvac, or is that label on the hose misleading?

Thanks for all the replies. Any thoughts to why this would have been installed? Possible leak in the heater core or something like that?

I live in the northeast, I don’t plan on driving it much in the winter. If I do does this mean I won’t have heat in the cabin?

So sounds like a routine thing that doesn’t interfere with any normal operations.

Thanks for the info.

Typically those kits are used because someone doesn't have very good heat. Believing they have build up in the heater core. You can sometimes flush it out and get heat again. Typically means cooling system wasn't maintained properly. If you aren't noticing any issues, replace the hose and move on. Just keep this in mind if you do notice something at a later date.

thats an adaptor for 2 things, one to purge air out of the heater core better and also its another high spot in the system so its a great place to also bleed from also, the 350z has one at the back and the front so it just help the situation but our system is pretty good really and never had an issue bleeding it
