I have a question about tapping into your exhaust manifold for an egt gauge. Can you really leave your exhaust manifold on when you are drilling the hole? I found this write-up on vfaq.com and i don't know if i should listen to this guy?

(Sorry, i thought that the link would bring you right to it- the post is under gauges at the top and then it is the second one down)Can you really install this gauge by drilling a hole in the exhaust manifold and not take it off the manifold?! Have you guys drilled a hole and not taken off your exhaust manifold? Thanks:dsm:

I didn't put anything on my threads to lock it there. Just screw in the probe nice and tight, it hasn't come out or loose yet.

Having a 2G manifold will prevent cracking.

Thanks, i just feel alittle un-easy drilling a hole into my manifold. Thats the reason for all my questions. Thanks again

FYI you can magnetize a drill bit by runing it back and forth accross a magnet.
(just like you can do with anything metal)
Granted it dont last that long and it only as good as the magnet you use and how long you
spend doing it.
