leaking something...

Hey guys.

I'm thinking its a head gasket... not to sure here is what I've noticed. When i first start the car and let it warm up, once its warm and i floor it my buddies say white smoke comes out. once its been a while I've been driving around it barely smokes white , to not even any. the car does not over heat.

i did see some coolant slowing coming down from the side of the exhaust manifold (while i was changing my alternator). but cannot find the source. i would like some advice from the people who have more experience of course. don't want to change a head gasket and all other gaskets needed to get there if that's not the problem. Also i do not have to add coolant regularly. have had the car for 2-3weeks now and its all good for fluids.

Okay i have a couple pics and a video.

this is what i found. i stoped the car and it was smoking from under the hood. so i open it up and its oil that fell on the back tube of the 02 housing ( if u know what i mean ) so i drive my wife to town.

I come back do the same thing. i open the hood and well its dry there.... for now. then i rev the engine ( white smoke out the tail pipe.) and i see oil AGAIN on the 02 housing. and now its spreading down towards the alternator. i cannot see it dripping.

Oh and my oil fittings on my turbo ahve no oil on or around them.

MY dipstick is there if ## wondering yes it poped and oil went at places but thats not the problem. Oil cap is bad also. order all those parts.

Compression: 175 175 125 175

Add oil to the 125 jumped to 175. So im assuming its the Rings. ( or not ? )

What im worried about is the white smoke and the Oil or Coolant thats leaking.

where i really notice it like i said is where the o2 housing is, BUT i cannot see it leaking/dripping. I rev the engine and then i seen oil on there and running down the housing , smelling like crap.

Oil fittings on turbo are good no oil near or around.

If u guys need any other answer or pics to help me ### let me know.


I do have an exhaust leak thats why it sounds like crap


All fluids are okay , ive had the car for like 2 weeks now and done maybe 1000km oil is good coolant is good in reservoir and radiator and where it connect to the thermastat

Pull the turbo off and make sure the o2 housing isnt full of oil or coolant. Is it possible coolant is leaking from inside the centersection?

Any noticable shaft play? side to side

I've always heard that white smoke=burning coolant. Judging by the pics you have shown, I'd check the exhaust manifold gasket. It could be your culprit. Someone on here posted that a bad exhaust manifold gasket can cause some coolant to seep in and be burned in the combustion chamber along with oil as well. And it looks like you've got some oil leaking down the front side of your block....the gasket could be doing that as well. Just food for thought.

If the smoke is coming out of the tail pipe with those compression readings then you most likely have a head gasket issue on the low cylinder. Try doing a coolant system pressure test. After leaving the system pressurized for a while pull out the spark plug of the low cylinder and see if you're getting any coolant inside the cylinder. The head gasket could also be your oil leak or you have two seperate issues. good luck.

White smoke is not always coolant. I had an inline check valve on my pcv system turned backwards and you wouldn't believe the amount of white smoke that came out of the car when I hit boost. It filled my neighborhood when I took off!

When oil goes straight to the exhaust it burns white. When it goes into the CC, it burns blue.

I am not discounting the low cylinder compression, but possibly you have turbo seal or valve stem seal issues as well.

guys since i put oil in the cylinder and it went up does that make it a ring for SURE? or can that oil be sealing a crack in a gasket or sumthing shortly to boost up the compression?

check your oil, is it foggy or milky\creamy looking?

did you do anywork on your headers or anything lately? or replaced them?

nope got the car like this. didnt change ne thing but the alternator. its 99% coolant im losing my oil is fine and hasnt droped and ive done 1000+km so far

nope oil is just black ( need to change it)

Ok because creamy or foggy oil almost will guarantee a large coolant leak, mainly do to blown head Gasket..

when you change it, you should just check once and awhile and watch the oil cap for foam like a cappuccino

you dont have to do this, but if it was me this is what i would do because it looks like you have a exhuast leak on your headers.

take the headers off, and lay a straightedge all the way across them and see if there are any places you can stick a piece of paper (or feeler gauge if you have one) in between the headers and the straight edge. if you can, you most likely need the headers machined, (do this with the Exhaust Manifold Gasket as well) but I would try a new Exhaust Manifold Gasket Before you machine them.

you could also take the valve cover off and make sure all your Head Bolts are torqued down right.
they should be torqued to 65-72 Ft-Lbs

thats what im gonna do im get a gasket set and ARP head studs. hopefully that fixes the problem if not ill drive the engine to the ground and then swap a 6 bolt.


dont feel like doing that right now when i have a working engine


am i losing ALOT of HP with this issue? or like 5-10whp?

k Update I just checked the Piping to the Elbow and the intake pipe to the turbo.

brief description:

the Piping where the elbow is and a small film of coolant or oil (still brown ish ) whatever it was. i wiped my finger around and it was on my finger. But like i said a small film.

Where the intake connect to the turbo , i took off the piping there and there was ALOt more oil/coolant. my finger was black. ( very black crusty like oil with like black dots like balls of oil)

my VC also might seem to be leaking on the right half i rub my finger on the seal and its wet compared to the left have which is dry.

here are the pics:

1 and 2 are the elbow
3 is the piping to elbow
4th is intake piping to Turbo Compressor
5th is VC as u can see the oil on the seal

no shaft play in turbo. And im leaking oil/coolant on my o2 housing but dont know where its coming from :S

Checked oil and Coolant this morning and there the same from 1500km ago
