Something weird.

I didnt know where else to post this. But my 98 Eclipse RS is doing something weird and i need opinions. Sometimes i will get in my car and i will try and turn it over. Like the engine wont try and turn over. Sometimes i can pull out my key. And put it back in and turn it and it will turn over and start up. But also sometimes that wont work. When this doesnt work. I hit the kill switch to the battery and it will start right up. I have already replaced my starter relay. And now im lost at what to do.

Test the starter and make sure you have good connections on your battery.

I have checked the connections and they are tight and look really clean. I hooked up a push button to my starter (the tool we use at the shop to bump stuff) and it works. I have a push button in my car that i need to hook back up to see if when i have the problem to try the push button to figure out it could be my ignition.

check the ignition lock on the steering column. Seems the most viable solution here. Or Possibly a ignition switch starting to go bad. Good luck bro.

You said u have an ignition kill switch installed and if u hit it it works?? I would start there. Also test the amprage of the signal wire at the starter solonoid too. Wires get old and start having voltage drops. If ## not getting enough power to trigger that solonoid it could be the signal wire. If that's the case, run a jumper relay and call it a day.

Could be the connector on the starter relay itself. The connector on the wiring harness that went to my starter relay was all corroded on my 3g, it caused intermittent starting issues like you're having.

Ill have to check it out. When i replaced it the plastic looked fine. But ill have to take a flashlight to it.

Well i checked the amperage on the starter wire. It was mid high twelves. And i also checked all the wires on the connector for my starter relay. And i took a flash light to it and saw no corrosion. But i did have some dielectric grease that i put in the connector. So what else? Idk how to check if my ignition is wearing out.

I had a similar problem, very random startup issues. It turned out to be my firewall ground, connection was terrible. Might check all the grounds associated with the starter.

Just got done checking out all of my grounds from the starter. And from the battery and the firewall ground. Everything is looking good. Im starting to lead towards ignition switch now.
