First off sorry I dont post enough random things to be allowed to post a question in the turbo tech section..

So ill post it here. if someone is cool and wants to move this to that section that would be sweet..

I got a big 16g turbo. when I got it I was told it was an evo3 big 16g. The guy said that it has an aftermarket turbine housing thats ported and not prone to crack, a real MHI center section, a big 16g comp. housing with a evo3 comp. wheel. I was wondering if its possible to fit an evo3 wheel in that comp. housing? I tried searching but didnt find any answers I was looking for..

Thanks for your help!!

The Evo 3 compressor wheel is larger than the Big 16g wheel. It won't work in the compressor housing for the big 16g compressor without machining. Jusmx141 lists the sizes of the compressor wheels here: Linky

Possible, but not really worth it.

The Evo III compressor wheel's inducer tips are only .010" larger than the Big 16G wheel....the thickness of two sheets of notebook paper. I've used Evo III covers on Big 16G turbos before and vice versa in a pinch with no problem at all.

An Evo III compressor is only better than the Big 16G compressor because it has lighter, thinner blades that allow the turbo to spool slightly quicker (and I do mean "slightly"), and the hub area of the Evo III compressor wheel is smaller allowing the blades to be longer which will generate more airflow.

It's not a huge difference....definitely not worth the $129 compressor wheel and $45 rebalance costs.

Thanks for replying, So I guess I got a good deal then for talked him down to $250 w/j-pipe + my t25?? The guy said he put the wheel in it.. he had like a million turbo parts at his place.. I think he rebuilds them etc. All the parts were new.. wheels and everything. (at least there was no signs of use as they were clean as new with a fresh marker on the bolts that hold the wheels on)
