I am in the midst of purchasing a 97 tsi. It's clean car except for the fact I'm not getting any juice from the forced induction until 3500 RPM. I've never dealt with, driven, or wrenched on a 4g63 before so i don't' know if this is a sign of a problem. I just figured that a little t25 would be putting out at a lower RPM.

I would check for boost leaks and a really good general maintenance one=over before I bought it.

Are you sure the turbo is stock? Maybe post up a pic.
Boost leaks or a clogged cat can also contribute to slow boost.

May want to try driving a different car (same model) to see if it is any different.

If its spooling at 3500 it could be a B16G, or just you have a big boost leak.

It's not a 16g so it has to be some leek of origins I don't know sooooooo. I'm car wrenching retarded so unless by chance anyone near Fort Wayne Indiana would want to help me out I'll just take it to the mitsu dealership and pay the price of ignorance

How about a T28? Pics? Also, you can make your own leak tester:
vfaqs leak tester

That should save you a few diagnostic bucks.
