Hey guys I had some knocking noise lately with the 95 Talon witha 1g 4g63T in it.

I was thinking that it was a spun rod bearing. I removed the oil there was no metal in the oil. In the process of removing the oil pan.

( what is the size of the transfer case drain plug ? )

I looked and my timing is off alot. I was wondering is it possible the knocking is the pistons smacking the valves? or is that not a possible and its 100% a rod bearing spun?

If the timing is off you are hearing your valves hitting your pistons pull your head. It can be off a little bit but not a lot.

but the valves hitting the pistons would that sound like someone is hitting the valve cover witha hammer LOL.

thats what it sounded like wasnt sure if it was spun rod bearing or valves. It taking it apart just im at work so was wondering if you guys knew if it could be that or what.

I was almost sure it was spun bearing til i looked at the timing.

could also be really messed up lifters, thats what i believe mine is and i am in the process of ordering some revised ones now. My timing was good but the knock was still there, wasn't there at all rpms and i believe it would be if it was skipped timing. I drained the oil nothing was there so filled it back up. Started it up with a fresh oil change and the knocking wasnt as bad. To me that proved it was something oil related which the lifters are. Do a compression test though. I did one and it came up as 170 across all 4 cylinders.

Would a spun rod bearing cause bad compression also ? That was my first thought going to drop the oil pan and check for flakes in it... there was none in the oil.

i got ALL MY INTAKE VALVES BENT FROM EVERY CYLINDER.... i decided to rebuild it completely....!!!!! everything is apart.... and ready.... it has new everything... oil pump, bearings, rings, pistons, etc etc. u name it...!!!! all i have to do is drop the block right in the engine bay and start installing gaskets, components and all.... ive bet you probably got slightly bent valves witch made my car idle surge...!!
