Knock from the front on braking

Needing a bit of advice here about where to start looking for a little niggle I've found recently.

First off, I park my Evo III on a slight incline (very slight). Right that's about as much background information as you need I think! After the car's been parked (say, overnight) I'll start driving it, but when I come to brake for the first time and weight moves forward there is a knock that comes from the front (possibly both sides... tough to tell). When I accelerate again there's no other knocking noises and none more when I brake again. Until the engine and everything else is settled after being parked, and then it will do it once again.

I know it's more than likely a bush or 2 at the front is wearing or has worn out. But could anyone recommend a place to start looking from that godawful description I've given you?

In a perfect world I'd replace all the bushings with poly ones, but in a perfect world I'd also be able to afford to replace al the bushings with poly ones!

My old 3g would do the same thing because the slide pins in the brakes were dry. They would start to lock up overnight and the noise I was hearing was the pistons releasing in the caliper. After you braked the first time they were cold, they were fine for the rest of your drive. Only the first time you stepped on the brakes would it do it.
