I got a 96 gsx with the stock 7 bolt, clutch and 69k. I just tightened my altenator belt b/c it was squeeling. Everything was fine till today. After like 4 inches of rain went to start the car and thier was a knocking noise coming from the belt side. Sounded like something was hitting plastic. Got louder as the rpms got higher. Checked the timing belt which was changed at 60k and everything was fine thier. All the belt are still tight. It drives fine cus i had to drive to work which is like 3 miles. Lights, a/c, radio they all work. Anyone have any ideas what it could be?

hhhmmm. i replace my harmonic balancer(97 gst) with the one from a 96 talon, and since then i had this weird hhhmming sound everytime my car revs over 1000rpm. weird.. the only difference between the two harmonic balancer is than the 97 is shallow that the 95. but yeah, check the crankpulley, it might be hitting the lower timing belt cover. this pics. will tell you what i'm talking about..

sounds like we may have the same problem. about a week ago, i noticed the same kncking your describing. i found the problem to be the alternator. my car still runs and everything works, but that soon led to the car not even holding idle due to there not being enough charge. go get your alternator checked before its too late, and youve gotta keep your foot on the accelerator all the time :thumbdown
