Hey, I have a question about my egr system. I have already checked my iac motor and it is good, so here are my symptoms. Car ran fine until I got a cel 32, then after that, it keeps dieing every time I stop, it runs fine, but when I come to a stop, it dies just about every time. I have my egr system blocked off, but I have everything hooked up so it should function normally. I have the head blocked off, and the valve spaced away from the head to get fresh air. My question is, if the valve is actually bad, would that be the cause of my car dieing? Or is it something else. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem with the egr blocked off. Thanks.

What do you mean? It dies when I stop the car, the clutch is not engaged, it doesn't matter if I'm in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, reverse, or neutral. It dies when I come to a complete stop, it just goes to idle and slowly dies down. It's not violent at all, it just slowly drops in rpm until it's dead. Starts right back up and idles fine and I drive, but when I go to stop again, it dies just the same every time. Here's the catch though, if I reset my ecu, the car will be perfectly fine, but the second I get the cel 32, it will die every time I stop. HELP!! I need to know if the egr valve being bad would be the cause of it. Thanks.

Edit: It's a Manual Transmission

if you rev it when your stopped will it stay on?

Yes, it will keep running if I rev it. I have to do some fancy foot work braking, with the clutch in and revving it at the same time LOL. So, I know it can't breathe. It wants to die as I am stopping, but if I give it a little throttle so rpm doesn't drop really fast, it will stay running and then finally stabilize. This will happen every single time I stop, I will have to rev it to keep it from dieing, or just let it shut off. Is it checking for EGR flow and just dieing because there is no flow from the failed valve? I checked my egr solenoid resistance and it was fine, checked my IAC motor as well.

i have always had my egr completely blocked off (made my own kit) and when this same thing happened to me, i replaced my map sensor and everything was fine...but idk if that could be your case

Well, I read the resistance on an ohms tester and I just rechecked it and it seems very close to the limit. Here's my results: Pin 1 and 4 = 52ohm Pin 2 and 3 = 54ohm. Isn't the limit 38ohm to 52ohm at 68*, I am testing these sensors at exactly 68* (no joke LOL) but that is so close, I I don't know. Input????? I am going to check my MAP sensor right now. Thanks for the help. Also, no one ever answered my question about whether or not the EGR system could cause my car to die......... It's like I said, it runs perfect until I get that CEL 32 and then it's starts to die at every stop.

So, I replaced my iac and still the same thing. So, it's not my iac. Also, no one has answered my previous questions. Please help me out, I am sick of my car dieing on me.

Well, if you have the EGR blocked off properly it shouldn't be affecting your car. I don't have my stuff in front of me but what is a CEL 32 again?

Why would you replace something that was in spec? Sounds like you have a faulty valve or a lot of carbon buildup around it. If you have VSS issues then I could see this happening often. Why don't you block off the head completely? If you're worried about MPG get a apexi and lean it out.

Other things to consider:

Take back the IAC valve and get a new EGR valve - (should be around the same price; not worth it, but it beats having a IAC valve + may solve your problem if you have everything set up properly)

Adjust the throttle screw on TB. (Last resort)

Clean TB.

Check for vac leaks, harness is in good condition.

I didn't buy a new iac, I had a spare. Also, I had a spare throttle body and still the same problem. So, I am about to replace just the egr and see if that's it. Also, I have almost the same thread going on over on 2gnt and others have stated it might be a speed sensor issue, so I will be checking that out as well. Thanks for the help so far

I have also had my egr blocked off with my own devices for a while now. I completely removed everything and am using that vacuum line for my turbo purposes now. Not having it shouldnt cause your problem.

Here is what your CEL is for - 17 PO403 32 "EGR solenoid circuit Harness and connector / Electric EGR transducer solenoid / EGR valve / EGR tube clogged / Vacuum hoses"

Are you sure you dont have any other CEL codes besides this one? Im guessing I probably have this one too along with the Evap code which has been on for 4yrs now. ha.

Well let's see here, I disconnected my battery to reset everything and drove my car around for about 4 hours in stop and go traffic and it never died once, so i thought maybe everything was okay. Well, went to drive the car again today and it dies every time I come to a stop again! But here's the catch, I don't have a check engine light now. So, I am really stumped at this point. Also, in answer to above^^^^^ No, I had CEL's 12......32......and 55 So, I want to sell my car now LOL.

Bad idle switch on throttle body. Fuel filter really really clogged. Vac leak, but you would hear it and you havn't mentioned hearing anything. Check your maf, your o2 also. Many things could be affecting your idle condition.

did you try your map sensor yet?
my car wasdoing the same thing til i got a new one

Well thats just bad luck. LOL. The 12 is for disconnecting your battery(power going to the computer has been disconnected within last 50 key cycles) and the 55 is just the end of reading the codes so a 32 is basically all you have thats "wrong."

And to kingjust. We dont have a maf. Anyway, I am pretty sure my brother had this exact same problem back when he had a plymouth laser n/t but I cant think of what the problem was. I might try and ask him later to see if he has any chance of remembering what it was as it was like 8yrs ago. ha.
